I wish I could say my bag was Gucci or Burberry, as I love bags, but I change them on a daily basis, so to spend £800 plus on one bag is just too much. The bag I'm using at the moment is quite quirky and I love it. It was a Christmas present from my pal, the Lord Advocate, Elish Angiolini.
I don't think she got it in Poundland, but it ain't a Ferragamo either! I love it 'cos it's big, black, has three pompons and a sort of grey Aran knit on the sides. Sounds awful, but it's great and gets admired all the time. Inside, I have my pink
leather purse, a sparkly glasses case that is big enough for two pairs, as I now need reading glasses as well as normal ones (old age, who needs it) a hairbrush and mini hairspray, which is essential if you like big hair like me. I've also got a wee bottle of Prada perfume that my husband bought me, a selection of pens and diaries and a small, fancy notebook for jotting things down at important meetings.

There's also a make-up bag with all the usual stuff. The side pocket of my bag has at least three lipsticks of various shades of red (my fear is being caught without a lipstick – I can cope with a lot but not that). Miscellaneous items include a pair of gloves, a funsize bag of Maltesers, my car keys, house keys and mobile… Blimey, now I realise why I have a sore back – it's carrying all that stuff around!

• Elaine C Smith will tour major Scottish theatres in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice from 14 March in Perth, Edinburgh and Dundee during April and Aberdeen, Kirkcaldy, Glasgow and Stirling in May.
