BG set to raise its original bid

BG GROUP is expected to up its bid for Origin Energy after the Australian company yesterday rejected its £6.6 billion bid.
Origin urged shareholders to reject the A$15.50 a share bid, claiming its independent prospects made the BG offer inadequate. BG, once part of British Gas, went hostile with its bid after failing at the last minute to have its offer recommended by Origin. Shares in Origin have traded above BG's offer in the hope it will increase it, with some analysts claiming Origin is essential to BG's development plans.
