COAL is king again. Or is it? This week's announcement by ScottishPower that it has signed the "largest-ever coal supply contract" to buy Scottish-sourced coal supports the crown restoration thesis.
But an announcement made the previous day by ScottishPower on its hopes for carbon capture technology was also a clear signal of just how many barriers have yet to be hurdled before we can be sure coal does indeed have a new future.

It is good that we are moving towards self sufficiency in energy but there is still a hugh amount of coal being imported.

The Westminster government has already sabotaged a proposal for a pilot scheme for CCST in Scotland, which has now been moved out of the UK. Can anyone see us getting this one?

"Environmentalists" are always in favour of technologu that doesn't exist yet. Once it exists they denounce it as we can see starting to happen even with their windmills.
