IT'S amazing what you can study at university these days – from computer games technology at Abertay University to commercial music at the University of the West of Scotland.
But Peter Williams has shunned such fun topics to study a subject closer to his career. "Doctor" Williams has become the first person in the UK to gain a doctorate in "financial planning".

The doctorate in professional studies (DProf) was awarded by the Institute for Work Based Learning at Middlesex University, which allowed Williams to combine his studies with his full-time role as head of industry development at Aegon UK.

After completing the course's core modules, Williams began a research project looking at the role played by advisers and guides in workplace pension provision.

Whatever next? A degree in how to survive the credit crunch?
