US worries hit banking shares

FRESH fears over the health of the banking sector helped drag London's leading companies deep into the red yesterday.
The concerns followed new reports of a potential bail-out for US mortgage lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and speculation that Lehman Brothers could disappoint with weaker-than-expected results. The FTSE 100 closed 2.4 per cent lower, with Royal Bank of Scotland and HBOS both down 7 per cent.
