SMALL businesses will receive rate relief on their empty properties, a measure designed to stop firms demolishing vacant buildings in an attempt to avoid paying business rates.
The threshold for empty property relief will be temporarily increased. For the 2009-10 financial year, empty commercial properties with a rateable value below £15,000 will now be exempt from business rates.
