Perrier-Dounbe slates Strachan

OUTGOING Celtic defender Jean-Joel Perrier-Doumbe has lambasted former manager Gordon Strachan, blaming him for a difficult final season in Glasgow, writes Angus Wright.
Perrier-Doumbe will leave Celtic after coming to the end of his contract and he admits it has been an unhappy time.

The former Rennes player was a regular during his loan spell at the club in the first half of 2007, and his displays persuaded Celt
ic to sign him on a permanent basis that summer. Perrier-Doumbe found himself sidelined soon after coming back from five months out with an Achilles injury and the 30-year-old has lashed out at Strachan, who resigned last month.

"I have mixed feelings about my time at Celtic," Perrier-Doumbe told France Football. "At the beginning, I was a regular starter in the league, in the Champions League, I scored the goal in the Scottish Cup final.

"Everything was going well. Then I got injured against AC Milan in October, I came back fine before the manager gave me a really hard time.

"Last summer, I asked to leave when the club signed Andreas Hinkel. The manager categorically refused. He never played me again.

"Did I annoy him when I asked to leave? I don't know.

"I tried my luck again in January, because I had interest from Norwich and Coventry for loan spells, also in Hungary, at Ujpest.

"Again the manager refused. Outcome – I spent my season on the bench."

Perrier-Doumbe claims Greek club Larissa, German side Freiburg and two Ligue 2 clubs in France have enquired about his services.

well put sonofc.

In fact the article might have made mention of the facts that caddis went out on loan in the january window leaving only the in jury prone mark wilson as a regular RB for cover.Had Hinkel become injured, then unless wilson was fit doumbe would have got the jersey.

So in actual fact, the decision to retain Doumbe was pretty much a no brainer....if he had raised his game he could have taken wilson's place, or even hinkel's.
He wasn't game enough to do that and found himself in the reserves....he isn't the first and won't be the last pro to wail about being stuck in the reserves.

The 23-year-old says he wouldn't have won this latest accolade without Strachan and can't speak highly enough of the way his boss helped him last year.

Do you expect us to believe that Naka slated Strachan on Japanese TV all those months ago and not one member of the Scottish media reported it? Too unbelievable for words.

Boruc was photographed in a Danish newspaper brushing a female friend's hair and it was front page headlines in Scotland.

Poor effort BTO.

Really, who cares? Gordon Strachan is no longer manager of Celtic, and his record is there for everyone to debate as they wish. Idle gossip is surely irrelevant.

Celtic have a new team in charge now, are refreshing their squad, and will be a different prospect come the new season.

People criticise the Scotsman for dropping standards, but some of the comments on here are moronic. We get the media we deserve, so let's have some intelligent debate please!
