DAVID Cameron, the Conservative leader, yesterday insisted that George Osborne, his shadow chancellor, was telling the truth about conversations over donations with a Russian oligarch in Corfu.
It was the first time Mr Cameron had given such an emphatic defence of Mr Osborne, whose political career looked precarious after it emerged he and the Tories' chief fundraiser had discussed potential donations from Oleg Deripaska, a Russian aluminium magnate.

Mr Cameron told reporters in Glenrothes when asked if he would sack Mr Osborne: "If my mother had wheels, she'd be a bicycle. The point is, he is telling the truth; he has said very clearly what he has done and what he has said."

Norman Baker, the Liberal Democrat MP, has asked Parliament's sleaze watchdog to investigate Mr Osborne's failure to declare the free Corfu villa holiday he was given by the financier Nathaniel Rothschild, who facilitated the meeting with Mr Deripaska.

I don't mix with oligarchs, wasn't the old word for oligarch "evil thieving scumbag"? And I know that isn't a word. The only dealing Mandelson and all the rest should be doing with these people is to deal them straight into prison where they belong and to take their ill gotten gains from them and give them back to the peoples of the former USSR they stole them from. Then again the Russians would have to give back all the things they stole from all the other people's of the USSR over the years. I have a useful tip for Mandy and all the rest, ....... do your business in the office like normal people and not on the yacht. As Adam Smith always said "the merchant classes never get together for any social occasion but that the conversation inevitably turns to how they might cooperate to take advantage of the customer". Is it a crime for rich people to have other rich people as friends? Yes, .... of course it is!!

If Cameron says he's telling the truth, then he must have been in the room at the time of the alleged begging, or how else could he know that?

This is a complete non-story which the media is peddling as some kind of Tory corruption, hoping that something will stick and ignoring the myriad wrongdoings of Labour..... Now Mrs Bicycle/Cameron, that's another story!
