THE speed of global deforestation has slowed as a result of new planting and natural forest extension, but the world's forests are still being destroyed at an alarming rate, the UN said yesterday.
Some 7.3 million hectares were lost annually in the last five years, down from 8.9 million hectares a year between 1990 and 2000.
