HEARTS manager Csaba Laszlo is one of three names being considered by FC Universitatea Craiova to become their new coach.
Officials from the Romanian club – without a permanent coach since the departure of ex-Juventus defender Nicola Napoli in May – have already held talks with former internationals Gica Craioveanu and Ioan Ovidiu Sabau.

However, Craioveanu has retur
ned to his home in Spain without yet reaching agreement with Craiova owner Adrian Mititelu. And ex-Gloria Bistrata coach Sabau has been told to lower his wage demands – thought to be 500,000 per year – before further discussions take place.

The achievements of Romanian-born Laszlo during his first season with Hearts – guiding them to a third-place finish in the SPL and qualifying for Europe – have caught the attention of Mititelu.

Craiova recently finished seventh in Liga 1 and missed out on a place in next season's Europa League on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Laszlo has advised Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov not to cash in on two of the club's prized assets this summer.

The Hearts board recently admitted sales are inevitable before the start of the season in a bid to reduce the club's debt, with Andrew Driver and Lee Wallace both linked with moves elsewhere.

Driver is currently with England at the European Under-21 Championship in Sweden, and Laszlo is aware that a productive tournament from the winger could see a queue of suitors pursuing him. And the Hearts boss also expects Wallace to achieve full international recognition with Scotland early next season if his recent form continues.

He said: "I don't like to lose Driver and I don't like to lose Lee Wallace. I would like to keep all the players in my squad. We need these players and we can't look to sell everybody. Also, these players need a little bit of experience. I think if they play one year more here in our team it is very good for them.

"Andy Driver grows slowly and will be interesting for the England Under-21 team.

"You don't know what the Scottish national coach plans and we must support his plan, but you can't ignore Lee Wallace. He will get his chance in the national team, definitely."

CSABA LASZLO has rejected FOUR job offers already this summer.

Romanian side Universitatea Craiova became the latest side to be left disappointed as the Hearts gaffer admitted to snubbing their approach.

But SunSport can also reveal Laszlo has turned down a bid from an unnamed Bundesliga outfit AND ordered his agent Antonio Carlo to decline enquiries from Greek sides Panionios and Asteras Tripolis.

Laszlo confirmed: "I've been contacted by Craiova but I'm not interested.

"I still have two more years to go here in Scotland."

That news will be a boost to Jambos fans. Yet the former Uganda boss' stock has clearly been on the rise since he guided Hearts to third spot in the SPL and was crowned Scotland's Manager of the Year.

He is due in Lithuania today for budget talks with Jambos owner Vladimir Romanov on what he last week dubbed D-Day.

But he will have plenty of takers if talks were to break down.

Craiova had been hoping to tempt him back to his homeland after a disappointing seventh-place finish in Liga 1 saw Nicola Napoli axed as boss.

But Craiova owner Adrian Mititelu was given no encouragement to pursue former Ferencvaros boss Laszlo.

The unnamed German side were looking for a fresh approach after a disappointing campaign in the top flight.

And they were attracted to Laszlo after seeing the way he had transformed the Jambos without having to make major changes to the playing personnel.

Panionis and Asteras Tripolis were keen on Laszlo as they try to improve on finishing eighth and 12th respectively in the Greek Super League.

Laszlo will jet into Lithuania this week to tell Romanov he must not cash in on two of their prized assets.

The Jambos board recently admitted sales would be inevitable before the start of the season to slash the club's debt.

Lee Wallace and Andrew Driver have both been linked with moves away.

Laszlo said: "I don't like to lose Driver and I don't like to lose Lee Wallace.

Careful now, abusing people eventually comes back to haunt you. If for any reason Lazlo did walk away it would leave you looking quite silly....

There are more sides in our league struggling right now 2 have no manager.

Yogi being a Hobo is probably the most interesting story i wont go as far as to wish him well but he certainly caught my eye when he got the job.

looking at it id say the SPL 2009 - 10 has the strongest Football clubs and some of the most viscious fighting firms in Scotland, this is interesting stuff especialy the return of the Perth Pack cant wait to see who hogs the headlines for what reasons.

Oh Harry you mentioned VR lack of payments which is not truth.

Setanta and the Spl are in breach of contract right now.

Spl are being shaken up by the Cops for £5M, Police your own grounds they say.

Erm is this Q for the appearence of the Clerry Jungle ? Banned since 1981 lol , maybe even the Bar Ox will make a comeback eh....

What a state the game is in here and folk go doowally because of a lack of signings..

Splitting my sides again...

Edinburgh's Big Team,

EH11 16/06/2009 08:34:39
He has a big chance to achieve something at Hearts and if he does its a platform to move onto a bigger stage. No disrespect but he aint going to get that in Romania or Greece.

Nice bargaining tool to use with Romanov though
29

Laird O'Gorgie,

16/06/2009 09:14:18
Yesterdays headline news was all about some loudmothed bloke at ER who might or might not get to hire a few players. Presumably as there is no news down ER way, Donaldson has gone scouring the internet looking for somthing negetive about Hearts.
No wonder the Scorsman is going down the pan.
30

huggs,

16/06/2009 09:41:48
Hearts being linked with Motherwell centre half Brian Mclean anyone know anything about him?
31

Jambo-ree,

16/06/2009 10:08:08
"with Andrew Driver and Lee Wallace both linked with moves elsewhere."

So we've now got the press reporting previous press speculation as facts, eh?
32

Jim Baxter,

Alicante 16/06/2009 10:48:03
I hope Csaba is given funds for going into the transfer market by Romanov. If this does not happen then I think we will be looking for a new manager. Csaba has his ideas of where he wants the Hearts to go and if Romanov is not of the same mind then I beleave he will walk away. I hope not as he has been the best we have had in a long time.
33

busbyfh,

16/06/2009 10:48:55
Very disappointing that Davis Obua is not being linked with a move to pastures new.
Cue the rebuttal that he will be better come August.
He couldn't be much worse (apart from the 4 game spell in February/March)
34

huggs,

16/06/2009 10:52:14

I think the main problem for the Edinburgh side is the language barrier. Getting your point across clearly to players on the training field is vital. So my question is this..will Hibs bring in an enterpreter to help the players understand big Yogi?
37

Glorious Hearts,

16/06/2009 17:35:46
37 I stand a better chance of understanding Fresian than John Hughes.
I mean, who grows up a Hibee?? :D

34 I also think Obua will come good for Hearts. I only saw him once in the flesh since he arrived and altho he didn't play well, his footballing qualities were obvious.
If Csaba can add some urgency and graft to his obvious talent I think he can be a very big player.
