HIBS face demands for compensation after claims they reneged on a contract with French defender Youness Bengelloun.
The Easter Road outfit had lined up the former Paris St Germain trainee on a two-year deal, according to the player's representative, Michael Ryan.

However, following the resignation of Mixu Paatelainen earlier this month and the appointment of Jo
hn Hughes as his successor, the capital club have pulled out of their move for the 26-year-old Olympiakos Nicosia player.

Ryan also believed he had an agreement for Blackburn Rovers midfielder Bryan Hodge to return north to Easter Road this summer, but Hughes has also scrapped the move for the 21-year-old.

Ryan said: "When Mixu left and John Hughes came in he just didn't fancy the two players at all. Brian had agreed to go to Hibs, but hadn't signed anything, but Youness had signed his contract and the club has torn it up.

"We are in mediation with them to find a resolution."

Meanwhile, Hibs were last night closing in on an agreement to make out-of-contract midfielder Patrick Cregg Hughes's first signing for the club.

The 23-year-old former Arsenal trainee has been identified by Hughes as a player to bolster the squad he has inherited from Paatelainen and is expected to pen a one-year deal in the coming days following negotiations yesterday.

As we know, Yogi can spot a player, Mixu couldn't, if Yogi doesn't fancy either of them then that's good enough for me, we already have too many average players on the books and need to get shot of three or four of these duffers, not bring more in!

Talking about duffers, any rumors on A O'Brien and Keenan? first day back for the boys in training on Thursday, will that be their last day with Hibs?

Keenan could be a good player in a good midfield. When he first came Mixu played him deep on week and further forward the next week. He showed some nice touches but went the way of all midfielders under Mixu.

I predict that AOB, if he gets a chance under JH will finally show us why he was brought to the club. He is a potential match winner.

Others like Rankin and Hogg have shown consistantly that they are not good enough and should be let go.

Thicot, as I've said before, could be a big player for us this season. He is very comfortable on the ball, positionally spot on and shows a vision that augers well especially for the players round him but also the set-up of the whole team.

I respect your opinion, but where does your optimism stem from with regards to,

A/ A O'B, 2 years 2 assists 0 goals? has he not had chance enough to have brought more than this to the club?

B/ Keenan? I have not seen him too often, but from what I have seen of him he is gash, and too short on hight and strength, Zemmama would be 1st choice there if we can get him and his family back.

C/ Again, I have not seen him play too often but he looks OK when I have seen him, I will give him the benefit on your word.

D/ Rankin, going into the end of the season I thought the same, but in the last 5 games or so at least, he showed he can be a decent player for us, albeit from the bench with Zemmama coming back, hopefully!

Differing viewpoints are always welcomed but WTF have you seen of O'Brien to give you any hint that he might be anything other than utter gash?

Granted his confidence was obviously non-existant last season but then I wouldn't be very comfortable playing in the SPL because I'm not a footballer either. It's not even as if he started well and faded, he started awful and got worse.

A complete waste of a jersey.

While you sometimes write sense, here I think you have selective memory. You seem to have ranked these players the wrong way round. In fact 2 of them are rank and the others very ordinary.

1. Alan O'Brien. I genuinely feel sorry for this guy. He can run granted, but not usually to any good effect. He is weak and timid when given the ball and usually loses it. NOT WORTH A PLACE in the team.

2. Joe Keenan. This guy is too small, does nothing really. Chisholm would make him look like a star. 3rd Division standard.

3. Steven Thicot. Would keep him as a bench midfielder and benched cover central defender. He is young and might improve. When he starts in midfield the game mostly passes him by. No stamina.

4. Hogg. Much superior to Thicot. Needs to work on his concentration and positional play.

5. Rankin. Whole hearted trier who runs for 90 minutes. Good squad player but not creative enough to be a mainstay in midfield. Would play him wide left as part of a 4 man midfield if at all.

PP, you need to get right behind Hogg this season and give him a bit of your vision. He will be a big player in the rejuvinated Hibs team this season. Probably will be made club captain if Corp. Jones goes. But don't panic, there is a chance he will sign a new 3 year contract.

Am I allowed to throw my tuppenceworth in without being lambasted?

1/ I had hopes for AOB at the start of the season but they just didn't materialise. A very good game in the 3-2 win at home to Falkirk is the only glimmer of hope he's given us. On big wages - Bye bye.

2/ JK - Bye bye. His performances back this up. I appreciate that Mixu forgot about the concept of a midfield, but I saw nothing in this guy to persuade me to give him a chance. Probably on decent wages - Bye bye.

3/ ST - Agree with NO, but the guy must learn how to concentrate for 90 minutes. Young and has shown ability. Give him another season.

4/ Hoggy - A player who showed early promise but who admittedly has slightly lost his way. Big Yogi can rejuvenate him hopefully. A must stay.

5/ Rankin - Squad player. Big work ethic but poor passer. Not really all that sure about him but I'd keep him on account of the fact that we're a wee bit thin on the ground in midfield.

NB - Must sign a left back. Now!!!!

AOB has not had an extended run in the team in his own position on the left wing. He has had some good performances when he has played there. I would not underestimate the damage that Mixu did to the team and the individual players in the team.

#7 I agree that Zemmama would be a first choice. If we get him back.

Rankin runs about a lot but rarely tackles. He just doesn't want to put his foot in where it counts.

I think that AOB has the potential to surprise us all this season but my main point is that I wouldn't discard any midfielder/winger/forward before we see what they can do in a properly set up team.

I suppose Rankin could maybe stay on the strength of his last few games. Possibly.

Who's been lambasting Dood? ;-)

Pike

"I wouldn't discard any midfielder/winger/forward before we see what they can do in a properly set up team." yes, absolutely, I just don't believe that anyone could turn a decent player into such an abject performer - you would need to be pretty mince to begin with.

I will be delighted to be proven wrong.

I take your point but won't it be ironic if you're watching a game and you think to yourself "I can't believe that I ever wanted to get rid of him."

Then two seasons down the line we transfer him for £36M to Manchester United as a regular English international. Having won the Golden Boots award and in the running for World Player of the Year.

And it all starts in 21 days time.

Private P - except that AOB is an Irishman like myself, and has as much chance of becoming an Irish or English international as I have. We must accept that Mixu and Collins bought some pretty ropey players and the sooner the new broom sweeps the better. Yes, there will be some unfair calls but all for the greater good. Remember who Mogga brought in - they were all better than those already in position. More Mogga please Yogi!!

How nice to see some genuine football chat that not interupted by numtpies.

Im actually really interested to see what Yogi does with AOB, I would like to see him given a final chance, at least until the end of the transfer window in August.

I must admitt its more out of hope than expectation but I think we dont really have any other wide players in the team just now or many players with any real pace to give us a little more variety going forward.

This is why I would rather see Keenan out than AOB as at least we have cover in central midfield (Stevenson, Thicot, Zemmama, Bamba, Rankin, Murray and Cregg can all play there) but we dont have any geuine wide players. Also, if he leaves were gonna have to pay him off anyway.

Yes, Saturday's always a lot better although I think it's actually getting worse during the week.

"Also, if he leaves were gonna have to pay him off anyway." I think we can get rid of him for free for breach of contract AND under the Trade's Description Act - in it he is described as a "Footballer".

Just shows that even someone with his finger on the pulse (As I demonstrate in the rest of #13)can still get things wrong.

Should football fans be prevented from going to away games?
No it’s only a small minority who are violent and you’ll never stop it.
Yes, the hooliganism must be stamped out.
Maybe but really the police need more resources to tackle the thugs
