Tavish Scott's comments that his constituents in Shetland are subsidising the Western Isles through preferential treatment on ferry fares (your report, 27 December) are bizarre in the extreme.
The Western Isles are part of a pilot road equivalent tariff scheme, which, if successful, will pave the way for cheaper fares for island communities. Mr Scott's comments seem even more strange, given that he was transport minister in the previous Labour/Lib-Dem administration. Why did Mr Scott not introduce such a scheme when he was a minister?
