Nicely done lads - too bad the Italians weren't up to the task themselves.
Good Job! well done!
#1Now, now, allies shouldn't criticize other each other. I seem to remember some British marines being captured without much of a fight some months ago.
Oh, REALLY - Mr. Scullion?
Does that admonision also apply to US/Canadian freindly fire incidents ..... please check you numerous posts on that topic before stuffing your foot further down yer thrapple.
FWIW, at least the UK has marines - and although poorly equiped and now far too small in numbers - nonetheless a fine bunch of chaps, totally committed to doing their level best in awful conditions and circumstances, while getting naught bu 'lip service' support from their political masters in London.
What does Canada have; oh, the Winnipeg Girl Guides? Oh, well, that's certainly sort out the bad guys worldwide.
I noted in a previous thread the status of the British people and the British armed services and was taken to task by one of my own, i am ashamed to say, countrymen. He calls himself Gastric Campbell's soup, or something like that.
The Brits are a fearsome race and mighty warriors. Very well done, men.
Kazaa, for the Brits! A real thanks from an American Army vet here!

Conan, I've been on field problems with the Brits and the Kanucks, and I can tell you for certain that the Canadian Army is full of some very nice guys who need Armies Likes the UK's and the USA because they can't do it on their own.
Yeah, I know #7, you're right - I just like to give it back to them because some of their posters here seem to be of the view that the US is their mortal enemy and can't get anything right - just a bunch of penis envyers, I suppose.
I mean, notwithstanding my posts from time to time, the Canadian Forces are about right-sized .... assuming they stay home and don't do much.
Reality is that they need a boost in money, manpower and munitions .... but even with this so-called 'Conservative' crown in power (that would be like Labour, here) there's just no fire in the belly to get out there and beat the bad players down becuase they have really (and its fair comment) spent so much time under the shelter of the US its just second nature for them to assume that the US will do all their heavy lifting.
My point has always been - hey guys, how about taking up a bit more slack on the rope?
Anyway, I guess old Scullion is away for the smelling salts - he's usually right back at you when you rattle his cage. Either that or passed out with too much Moosehead.
#8 Conan, you're just peaching to the chior here. But to be fair, I'd rather fight with Brits and Scots than Kanucks. I like to be on a team with real know-how and experience.
#8 & #9 - So when are you two announcing your engagement?
#10 James Donald....Donald, such a great highlaner name, but the Mc Donald's are not known for their humor! Leave the Humor to those of us from the Clans Duart and Lochbouie, we're professionals.
@49th State and Conan
Pull our weight? You mean like when Canada had troops fighting in all theatres during WWII while the US sat on its backside for two years, or when Canada had the second largest ground force component in Afghan after 9-11 and during the initial invasion? Thanks for sending the Aircraft Carrier Battlegroup there UK - those are great for fighting land-locked countries!
How about when the Canadian Army was the only armed formation capable of defending the British Isles after the retreat from Dunkirk? I don't seem to recall you brits having issues with us picking up the slack from you during that war (and without conscription either until the very end).
Seems to me Scullion hit a little too close to home with regard to those British marines.
Seems to me that the Canadian Military usually punches well above its weight in international military competition, (how many times has a country with under 140 fighter planes won the Top Gun competition?)
Just some thoughts.
# 12Allan In WWII, Canadians were under the Union Jack, not the Maple Leave, silly boy! As for the USA, we did not want to get invovled in over seas wars. Bet you can guess why.
By the way, the USA will take Canadians into it's army. Care to give it a try and be an Airborne Ranger?
Dunkirk, those soldgiers were glad to see any boat to get them back to England.
I wonder how many Canadian heroes are burried in France with all those GI's?
# 12
No, Im sorry Alan, Canadians do not get a leading role in world history. Better luck next time.
#11. 49th State, stuck inside my sleeping bag - I'll decide Yankee boy. If the crap you post is intended as humour, that explains a lot. BTW Donald is not my surname and I have no connection with the Clan McDonald either but I am sure your insult to the McDonalds will be well received.American Army = All the gear, but no idea......
#18. Reading Public - "James Donald seems to me we had a dispute over your name before. Why don't you change it to McDonald so it would be easier?" - Don't recall any dispute but I would never change my name to "dumb down" for Americans. After all, I've never asked you to change your name to Burger King, have I?
Such comic relief here!I like many Americans appreciate our neighbors to the north, great beer, Crown Royal and of course the Canadian bud!Our dollars are on par with one another and now if we can get as low as the Peso in Mexico the rest of the world can send us foreign aide for a change! As for Bush he is an idiot and will soon be out of the picture. Unfortunatley we will probably get the man-woman CLinton back in the big house. THen the world better prepare for final melt down!
#13 & #15 – 49th – During WW2 the Canadians fought under the Red Ensign not the Union Jack (the Maple Leaf replaced the Red Ensign in the 60s) – you really do profess fiction as passionately as fact. Regarding the number of Canadian soldiers buried in France from WW2 – the number of Canadian Soldiers is significantly higher and incredible higher when expressed per capita of country population. By the way, I wouldn’t suggest you use A35 to relieve the powder burns on your embouchure.
Bmac, really? Per capita is red and soaked into the ground all over Europe, and Africa, and Asia... I for one, as a vet, am tired of the whole thing. Really, Canadians are nice guys and are all set to defend their homeland for three days should they be invaded by a major power.
When will the people in the UK learn that currently Canada has over 3000 troops in the South of Afganistan, Kandahar province. They are not hiding in the safer North of the country where most of their Nato Allies are stationed. 71 Canadian Soldiers and 1 Canadian diplomat have been killed and hundreds wounded. 1 Canadian killed yesterday and 4 wounded and 2 more seriously wounded today. These casualties are rarely reported in the UK news media. UK casualties are reported in the Canadian news media on a regular basis. For the self righteous residents of the USA 12 or 14 of the Canadians were killed by US military so called "Friendly Fire ". 8 were killed by 1 "cowboy" pilot who couldn't or wouldn't follow orders and wanted to "score" a hit on the Taliban before he went home. Only thing is he bombed a Canadian night exercise. Couldn't read a map either. By the way he got a slap on the wrist. Ask President Karzi how he feels about the Candian military presence in his country. Earlier this week he was begging the Canadian government to let their troops stay after their projected leaving date of Feb 2009. No other NATO country wants to take over the area from the Canadians.
#4Shame Conan!Canada punches above it's weight when called upon.#24Agree.
'#4Shame Conan!Canada punches above it's weight when called upon.' ..... with what? They have no strategic transport, no armour, limited vehicles and almost none with any degree of protection for the occupants, very limited helo capability and none in theater and none with any meaningful attack capability. You might like like your sound bites, other Conan .... I'll lunch on the FACTS.
