Soldier killed days before return to UK

A BRITISH soldier was killed in an explosion in Afghanistan days before he was due to return to the UK for a family visit.
Private Peter Cowton, 25, of Basingstoke, Hampshire, died in Helmand province on Tuesday, the Ministry of Defence said yesterday.

In a statement, his parents, Karen and Robin Rolfe, said: "Peter was proud to serve his country."
