Buckfast taken out of exhibition

A BOTTLE of Buckfast tonic wine has been withdrawn from an exhibition about Scottish life after pressure from the distributors.
Jim Wilson, of J Chandler & Co, said the 'Scotland: A Changing Nation' display by National Museums Scotland was promoting the product irresponsibly and asked for it to be withdrawn.

The bottle was to sit beside high-strength lager, a drug resuscitation kit, a methadone leaflet and a blood-testing kit.

What Nonsense!

Ive Never even 'Tasted' the Drink,.."Buckfast"!

No one I know,..Drinks It!

Maybe a Few Teens, have asked me,,...

"Can you get me a Bottle of,..'Buckfast' Mr,?"

When I go into the Shops!

But now the 'Teens', Don't even ask for this outdated drink!

"Outdated",?

Yes It IS!

Why,?

Its NEVER Advertised!


NO-ONE! not even the, 'Mouse' would have taken any notice if,..

'Buckfast' was in the,.."exhibition"

The National Museums of Scotland are obviously run by a pack of idiots who are intent on bad-mouthing Scotland.

An exhibition called a Changing Nation, and featuring Buckfast, high strength lager, a drug resuscitation kit, a methadone leaflet and a blood testing kit are hardly representative of Scotland.

They may be representative of a very small minority of people in Scotland, but to hold an exhibition like this makes you wonder about the motives of the people concerned.

you can see the neds, lining past the exhibit, spotting the bottle and reaching to their back pocket to find it empty and then rushing out to restock. PC gone wrong.

It seems that this "exhibition" is just another excuse for the knee-jerk nannies to bleat about people enjoying themselves and paint pictures of doom and gloom.

There is no way that methodone and rescusitation kits are in any way indicative of "the modern face of Scotland". And there is absolutely no link between them and high-strength lager or Buckfast. Anyone who pretends there is is totally short-sighted and stupid.

How can anyone possibly deny that alcohol is just a drug with a different name? While Scotlands mucky mucks are out fighting methadone treatment (which actually does some GOOD by preventing AIDS and treating addicts) alcohol is made for enjoyment only? Yet it destroys countless lives each and everyday? Its POISON. I am on the mind that a person's body is to do with as they please, but at least have the balls to admit there is no difference between drinking 'til your drunk and getting high off drugs.

Well, except, of course, you don't hear about people on pot causing violence, liver disease and date rapes.

Anyone that drinks to get drunk needs to get off their moral high horse if they think they are ANY different than a common "junky"....except you all get to indulge in your poison of choice without legal repricussions.

If you can think of one other way that, besides legalities, that alcohol is more "ethical" or "moral" than opiates or cocaine--let me know. You'll be the first.

"Base wine" - you're not kidding!

The Museums should have stuck to their guns and let the public decide what's offensive. Anyone commenting on an exhibition that isn't even open is like the god botherers complaining about Jerry Springer the opera without seeing it: numpties.

And you all actually believe there is a difference between your national drinking problem and the small SMALL percentage (in comparison) of drug addicts in your country?

The exhibition was trying to point out that your populace are all using drugs in one form or another...and dying of alcohol poisoning is no different than dying of an opiate overdose. The sad part is you all don't even realize that the "resuciate" kits and methadone treatment are measures to end HARM, while the bottle of lagar is just a way to add to it!

If you breath air long enough you are guaranteed to die. Methadone and resuscitation won't prevent it.
Crass, moralising, artificially concocted exhibitions are propagandist nonsense. I would have no objection to an exhibition of real drunkards laying in the gutter but the promoters have probably never have seen a real one.

This is an ootrage! Ye cannie tac awa the wee bit o pleasure we hiv here in Airdrie. Especially wae the orange walk in awe that comin up. If we are no tanked up wi Buckfast, how ir we gonnie hiv the courage tae shout abuse it the kaflics here in the toon. Oor flute players throats ir no gonnie be lubricated enough tae play loud sectarian tunes when weer passin the Kaflic chapels here in the toon. Awe dear this is a catastrophy! Its no right a tell ye!

An exhibition dreamed up by "arty" types. Oh, good lord!

A stony face student was taken with classmates to look at a dreadful art installation. "What do you think of this wondrous piece of work?" gushed the lecturer. "It's a load of S%%t!" Declared the student.

The lecturer tut-tutted and the went on with lengthy explanations as to the intentions of the artist, how vital the work was, etc., etc.

"That may well be the case," replied the student. But I STILL say it's s%%t!"
