Published Date: 10 September 2008
THE Treasury has been accused of blocking Scotland from using a £100 million fund to spend on renewable energy.
The row over the money in the Non Fossil Fuel Obligation fund, which has been disputed between Holyrood and Westminster since 2004, started again after former UK energy minister Brian Wilson accused the SNP Government of ignoring the cash.

But a Holyrood spokesman said that the money held by Ofgem cannot be touched because every pound taken out is a pound off the Scottish block grant.

The spokesman described the situation as "absurd" and said that attempts to resolve the situation were continuing, but the Treasury wrote as recently as February refusing to bend on the issue. However, a Treasury spokesman said Scotland had already received the Barnett consequentials from £585 million withdrawn from the fund for England and Wales and could not claim the money twice.

Brian Wilson - A legend in his own lunchtime.
Owner of the West Highland Free Press and used it all during his time in office to plug his support for windfarms and castigate anyone who opposed them.
He was commonly known as "The honourable member for Amec north"

" . . former UK energy minister Brian Wilson accused the SNP Government of ignoring the cash."

I trust Brian Wilson will either formally withdraw his accusation or support the Scottish Government against the Treasury.

As he is pro-Scotland then I would expect him to support the fight against the Treasury. He obviously thinks they are wrong.

Scotland should be treated in the say way as Wales and NI in this and funding for Police pensions.

The UK Trasury is punishing Scotland for voting SNP.
