AMAZON'S sales suggest this is the most popular of James's novels, so it makes sense to release it in this cleverly abridged audiobook. The story of Isabel Archer's peregrinations through Europe as the Machiavellian Gilbert Osmond attempts to divest her of her inheritance becomes an absorbing rumination on the nature of freedom and betrayal; Gayle Hunnicutt reads with real sensitivity.
