NO-FRILLS airline Ryanair has brought forward its plan to scrap airport check-in desks from the end of the year to 1 October.
The budget Irish airline also said that from 1 May all new bookings would have to be made on the internet and the fee for airport check-ins would double to £20.

The low-fare carrier further announced that from 1 October children under the age of 16 would no longer be able to travel unaccompanied and that passports and national ID cards would be the only accepted forms of photo identification.

The airline announced last month that it was scrapping its airport desks, citing the fact that 75 per cent of its passengers already used its website check-in service.

I stopped using them when their contempt for their customers became unbearable. I'd rather book as I choose, know what the price will be without having to go through a never ending list of add ons, and have a staff member available at a desk in the airport to ensure that, should I have any complaints or questions, I will be given a service.

I don't think that's too much to ask, but it is for these budget airlines, so I don't use them. Having said that, the service BA and BMI offer is pretty crappy too.

I'm not on here to advertise for the airlines but I've travel alot with Bmi and Star Alliance and have to say I can't find many faults with the service I've received.

On several occasions I've missed flights due to bad traffic or simply stupidity on my behalf, not once have I been charged a fee, or when I've been on a delayed flight or missed a connection I've been looked after.
Maybe some people thing they should be treated like Kings and Queens, expectations to high?

On the other hand I can say the twice I travelled with Ryanair it was rubbish!
They want cash for every conceivable aspect of the journey, on the whole unless you wish to go in the clothes you stand in to an airport which is many miles from where it actually says it is, Frankfurt Hann for example is about 4 hours from Frankfurt!
