MONTY'S playing for the jersey
GOLF LEGEND LINKS UP

HE MAY not like the tag but golf "legend" Colin Montgomerie has teamed up with the "world-renowned" Scottish knitwear producer, Peter Scott.

Between them they will create an exclusive Colin Montgomerie cl
othing range, we are told.

According to a rather too gushing press release, the initiative has been finalised "after months of planning and development".

Monty was on-site at the Hawick-based factory last week to approve the designs, including a collection of knitwear and polo-shirts inspired by the Montgomerie tartan, which will be launched early next year.

Peter Scott has been an official sponsor of Montgomerie since January 2007 after being approached by his management team, IMG, as requested by Monty himself.

The knitwear producer also works with many of the leading sport brands, such as Nike and Adidas, to produce high-quality, "performance-enhancing golf apparel".

Given Monty's current form, one might be forgiven for asking whether that last claim can really be justified?

KILLER QUOTE

"THERE is a problem of supply and demand and this is why the price is high, even if it is exaggerated by speculation. Definitely we don't see it as good news, not for producing countries, companies or consumers. It is going too fast."

FACT OF THE DAY

922,600

CHINA'S car sales rose 14 per cent in April from a year ago, led by strong sales of commercial vehicles, new figures have revealed.

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said passenger vehicle sales rose 10.8 per cent and sales of commercial vehicles surged 20.9 per cent.

Total vehicle sales in China, the world's second-biggest car market after the US, were 922,600 units for the month, said the group, which is authorised by the government to announce market data.

GOOD DAY

Profile Plus

THE Edinburgh-based leisure, lifestyle PR and marketing agency has won the Scottish consumer account for Europe's largest low-fares airline, EasyJet. Profile Plus won the contract after a three-way pitch. Account manager Kerry Teakle will be in charge.

BAD DAY

Land of Leather

THE sofa firm has been hit with a £210,000 fine by the City's watchdog for putting thousands of customers at risk from lax controls over the selling of payment protection insurance. Some 58,000 customers were exposed to the risk of buying unsuitable insurance, said the FSA.
