ARTISTS' impressions have been released of the first office building to be built on the former Scottish & Newcastle brewery site in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh.
The five-storey complex will offer in excess of 62,000sq ft of "Grade A" office space. It will also incorporate a number of retail units, including coffee and sandwich shops. Work is set to start in June.
The speculative office building forms part
of the city's new Springside quarter, a 9.5-acre scheme being billed by its backers – Grosvenor, AMA and Royal Bank of Scotland – as one of the largest city centre regeneration projects in the country.
Planning approval has already been granted for hundreds of flats and a vast underground car park.
The office building, which has been designed by Edinburgh architect CDA, is located on the site of actor Sir Sean Connery's birthplace. Options are being looked at to commemorate his links with the area.
Peter l'Anson of property consultant Ryden, which along with King Sturge is joint letting agent for Springside, said: "This prime office development will be an integral part of the city's growing business area, close to the Exchange financial district and Haymarket.
"We expect significant interest in Springside, particularly given the limited availability of Grade A space in the heart of Edinburgh."
