A SHELLFISH supplier based on the Isle of Skye has been bought out of liquidation by a Spanish firm, securing eight jobs.
Sea Scot, which fell into the hands of liquidator Tenon at the end of April, has been bought by the UK subsidiary of Maresmar, a seafood processing company based in Barcelona.
A newly registered UK company, Marescot, was set up to acquire Sea Scot
for an undisclosed sum.
Sea Scot takes delivery from a fleet of boats that collects live shellfish off the west coast of Scotland – including langoustine, prawns, lobster, crab and scallops.
The company processes the shellfish at its three locations in Harris, North Uist and Broadford on the Isle of Skye, then distributes the products by air to customers in Europe.
Tom MacLennan, joint liquidator at Tenon Recovery, said: "The acquisition is excellent news for the company, its staff, suppliers and the local communities in which the business operates.
"Sea Scot will now benefit from Marescot's support and investment, and we wish the company every success with its future plans."
Marescot chief executive Jordi Cubells added: "We are delighted to have acquired Sea Scot, which has an outstanding reputation in the shellfish industry for the quality of its products and track record on innovation.
