Menzies Aviation has racked up three years of consecutive double-digit revenue growth, as air travel continues to recover towards pre-pandemic levels.

The firm, which provides services at more than 260 airports in 55 countries, reported global revenues of $2.2 billion (£1.8bn) for 2023 - a 10.7 per cent increase compared to the previous year. In 2023, Menzies Aviation served more than 4.5 million flights (up from 4.1 million in 2022) and some 217 million airline passengers (183 million in 2022). Bosses said the group outperformed the industry average for operational safety performance in 2023 while its aircraft damage rate was six times lower than the industry average.

John Menzies started out in 1833 when its eponymous founder opened a bookshop on Princes Street, Edinburgh. The newspaper and magazine distribution and delivery business was spun out in 2018, creating Menzies Distribution, and leaving the rest of the firm to focus on providing aviation services. These days, Menzies Aviation is headquartered in London.

Philipp Joeinig, group chief executive of Menzies Aviation, said: “In 2023, our strong financial performance marks the culmination of three years of double-digit growth, propelling us to the forefront of our industry as the undisputed number one. We are outperforming the industry average in safety and leading the way on electrification. As we celebrate our achievements, we remain steadfast in our commitment to continued growth and delivering value to all stakeholders.”
