MIDDLESBROUGH midfielder George Boateng, who was yesterday linked with a move to Celtic, is likely to move to another club in the English Premier League.
The Dutchman was reported to have travelled to Glasgow for talks and been given a tour of the club's Lennoxtown training ground, but the player's agent Barry Silkman dismissed such claims, insisting there had been no contact whatsoever from the Parkhead club. Newly-promoted Premier League side Hull City are strong contenders for Boateng's signature having already agreed a settlement fee with Middlesbrough for the remainder of the player's contract, although two other top-flight clubs have shown strong interest and could also make official approaches this week.

Silkman, the Dutchman's representative, said: "A Premier League club know what the fee would be and have asked to speak to the player and his representative. I will be speaking to them, probably on Tuesday."

A newspaper report yesterday claimed Celtic manager Gordon Strachan, who brought Boateng to Britain while manager of Coventry in 1998, was hoping to be reunited with the 32-year-old at Parkhead, but he now looks set to extend his stay in England.

It was only last week that the daily ranger was quoting the chairman of some italian club that they were going to sign Nakamura and it all turned out to be a load of old bo11ox.

Now this Boateng story, that he's been to lennoxtoun, seems like more cobblers.

7

Sir Minty Moonbeams, Casino Royale,

8

Both Celtic and the Italian club concerned , including the Chairman "quoted" released statements that the story was false...the Italian chairman described the words attributed him by the daily ranger as a total concoction and stating that he had never spoken to anyone from the daily ranger.

Did the daily ranger come out fighting?
Did the daily ranger reprint the story, say it had reliable sources and that it was sticking to its guns?

Or did the daily ranger crawl under a stone and say nothing, wait for a week and then make up another story about Boateng ?

Apart from which, the chairman of Bologna came out and said the quotes attributed to him were pure fantasy.

But like the typical dumbass Gers man, thepundit believes him, doesn't believe him, thinks it might be true, believes in the tooth fairy.

Where do we start with morons like this?

Gentlemen: One of my mates has just retired from journalism, according to him the average Scottish newspaper has an 11-person sports team. This lines-up in 1-4-1-3-2 formation.

1 - The sports desk secretary - ra burd who holds the whole operation together.
4 - The sub-editors who write the "Supercally..... etc headlines and decide what goes where on which page.
1 - The Sports Editor, who kicks everyone.
3 - The golf writer, the racing man and the all-rounder who covers every sport other than football.
2 - The Celtic man and the Rangers man.

Every day the various Celtic and Rangers men get together with their counterparts on the other papers to set the agenda.

The three men just off the front do their jobs, while the Sports Editor and the four subs cobble together the stuff sent in by the various agencies to fill what space is left after the C & R men have woven their magic.

As that late, great Partick Thistle supporter Ian Archer always insisted: "Sport, that's the comedy section of the paper".

It's the close season, the phoney war - a few men with small talents, big egos, inflated salaries and even more inflated expense accounts have to justify their existence - so we have to endure a whole truck load of the smelly stuff - because we're stupid enough to believe their might be a grain of truth in what they write.

Take it all with a pinch of salt boys - and have a nice day.

Howdy JR how are you this fine morning ? I am pleased with the news that Steve Smith is back in contention for the left back slot next season and hope that he comes back from his injury as strong as Hutton did with his. I think that Whittaker can do a job at right back next season if he has a bit of a consistent run as he was used as the left mid mainly last season after Beasley was injured. Maybe attacking right sided midfielder. I feel a bit for you guys as you are totally in the dark with regards as to who is staying and who is going. I am happy that McGregor is staying along with Cueller and Weir. I suppose that you hope Boruc stays for another year but do you think he will ?

#JR - I'm a big McIllvanney fan, boh Hugh and Willie, fellow Ayrshiremen of course.

Hughie, however, has been longer in London than in Scotland. Archer was undoubtedly the best Scottish-based sports writer.

Today's top Scottish-based sports scribes, in my humble opinion, are Doug Gillon the athletscs and minority sports man at the Herald, Bill Leckie at the Sun, Hugh MacDonald at the Herald and Young Alan Pattullo at the Hootsman.

Mind you, if James Traynor would stop being a "personality" and get back to being a journalist, he could maybe become as good a football writer as his big brother John.

Glad he's given Strachan the bodyswerve because he's a good player.

sounds like Strachans rapidly moving down that list of signing targets.

Im sure he'll bring someone in before August.

For an away win in Europe you need a striker with real pace like Beasley and Cousin against Lyon. Celtic need a fast striker or maybe even play McGeady through the middle in Euro away ties. For me McDonald and VOH lack pacer for the lone striker role ! Kenny Misser LOL ?

For several seasons now the media have had no idea who The Champions were going to sign and every transfer window the baying, slabbering Orcs take this as an indication of Celtic´s inability to attract top name players, and regard this as some sort of weapon with which to ridicule us. Only to have their foolish delusions dashed when Celtic announce surprise big signing. They may not all have worked out for the good, but Gravesen, Hesselink, Nakamura, Donati et al all raised eyebrows when they put that pen to the hallowed paper.

On the other hand, perhaps it is understandable so few are the opportunities to try and get one over on the Champs. My advice nevertheless remains: avoid making fools of yourselves by keeping quiet.

"Usual rumours, usual rubbish"

Followed by

"Boateng! strachan never lets us down. Can't wait to see what muppet he produces this time"????

Make yer mind up.

I love the fact that Celtic have zero leaks to the press after seeing the back of Burley et al. The laptoployal are being embarrassed daily with their made up s****. The press will get the info when the SSM deams fit.

As for; "Can't wait to see what muppet he produces this time", another Naka, Boruc, McDonald, Robson, Brown (who IMHO will turn into a fantastic player for us) etc, etc, etc will do for me.

Now if we were bringing in Lafferty's, Kenny Misser's (copyright Raging Gers fans last year) and Velikca's of this world as our main signings I WOULD be worried.

(Raging Gers fans, I know you all got very wet on Saturday but please take this in the spirit in which it was meant. No daft raging, bile filled posts please. Lets keep it clean the day eh??)

Anger, despair and incontinence was the theme across Scotland today.

In an attempt to replicate the branding of the famous SOS pairing of Blackburn Rovers when Shearer and Sutton where there, Mincin’ Martin Bainochio has combined the first names of ReaRangers new strike force to come up with something similar.

He stated “we believe that Kenny and Kylie are brilliantly positioned to take ReaRangers forward. Under the banner of KAK, these 2 guys will become ReaRangers Legends”

JJB have released a series of ReaRangers fitba strips with KAK on the back.

ReaRangers are believed to have paid in the region of £5m for the KAK strikeforce.

You do have a bit of a valid point and that is that pre 80`s the best teams even then were the athletes !
As we have progressed the players have become even more athletic and sometimes tae the detriment of skill.
Sad but true ! A good blend of both is what is required and why Spain won the Euro`s and Germany came up short.

So - to elaborate, ReaRangers abjectly failed last season because the did not have the physical althleticism that most modern teams have.

Whilst most people sought to make excuses, it was clear that through bad management (Cousin suggested bad practise in the media and PLG failed to get support to challenge it), ReaRangers players, simply were not fit enough in the end.

#65 Most supporters in Ireland follow teams in the EPL for the reason that it is the nearest major league and has been available on tv for aeons-until laast season live matches were shown on RTE on Saturdays at 3pm. For a Scottish club to have any following is to be applauded but ask most Irish people and they will confirm sympathy and pride in Celtic as part of the diaspora. Go to Donegal or Cork and Celtic will be the 1st choice team of the majority.

It's quite funny witnessing the denigration of McCourt given the performance of Scottish teams against LoI teams in recent years-I recall Aberdeen v Bohs around 2000 and, although they got through eventually Rearrangers trashing Tranmere a few years back. Can't remember whty the match had to be played in England, maybe you can elighten me?

Sorry tae burst your bubble but Rangers failure last term was the lack of the flair player such as Laudrup or Walters a bit like Russia without Arshavan. The one thing Rangers did have was the athletes. Do you need me tae explain the off side rule or formations ... just ask ! Spain were great at the Euros but became the best when their flair player Fabregase played and lifted them to another level. Take Czech Rep a good athletic side but take out Nedved and crash.

111 If your Auntie had balls she'd be you uncle !!!

What are you on about??

Love to see the bears fans trying to wind us up about no signings, shows they are worried. The transfer window closes at midnight on the 31st of August. We will keep you and the usual laptop loyal guessing till then.

Even with no new signings I would still be confident of winning the SPL. However we would certainly struggle in Europe with no new signings.

Aye but we are still alive and kicking....

Back then we owed 6 million.....Rearangers were in debt to the tune of 87 million......

I think you'll also find your accounts no longer stand alone....but instead have been taken under the wing of the parent company.....to avoid insolvency!

No one wants to buy Rearangers.....why?

Fabregas did struggle for a start but came on for the ineffective Iniesta in nearly every game and improved the forward play of Spain. Maradona ran from the half way line with real pace and skill for probably the best ever world cup goal against England. Pace and skill. You really have got the ache this morning ... what`s up has your bird left you or something ?

Gordon Strachan has won more CL games than Walter Smith...how can this be?

Smith played 30 won 5
Strachan played 12 won 6

Can Wattie keep up with Gordon?

"...if it wasn't for that freak result by benfica you wouldn't have made the last 16..."

Not that freakish...Shakthar played a similar type of football to Benfica , it's just that Benfica were better are it. Only a nonce couldn't have spotted that.

But Rangers winning 3v0 in Lyon after Lyon rattled the woodwork 3 or 4 times and McGregor pulled of a string of fine saves , now that was freakish.
And if it wasn't for that freak result, you wouldn't have made UEFA and wouldn't have brought shame on Scottish Football.

Old Duke Box ... yet another athlete. I remember in the Scottish cup final in 94 or 95 when he scored a hat trick against Hearts but the main man was the flair that every team needs and at that time it was Laudrup.

You have merely exposed your lack of travelling experience....we have a global appeal because of our clubs Irish/Scots background.....

Rearangers appeal stretches to the KKK...BNP...NF..etc

Another piece of transfer news is that Blackburn Rovers are lining up Steve Davis from Fulham. It appears that Blackburn are prepared to meet Fulham's valuation for the player which means that Rangers are likely to miss out.

Vitoria Zizkov ?

Remember them ?

Artmedia went onto the group stage and as I recall got the UEFA spot coming third in their group.

Vitoria Zizkov were the team that came to Ibrox and requested hat Rangers wear their away strip...why ? ...because the club was so poor that they didn't have an away kit.

Now pub team or whit ?

Rangers want tae pay £3M and Fulham want £4M and the player wants the Gers move so a bit like with McCulloch a meeting somewhere near the middle will see him sign for the Gers for next term.
