THE media watchdog yesterday rejected complaints by a police force about a Channel 4 undercover programme that exposed extremism in British mosques.
West Midlands Police claimed the Dispatches programme had misrepresented the views of Muslim preachers and clerics with misleading editing.

Following yesterday's ruling by Ofcom, the broadcaster called the force's actions "perverse" and said it had, in some people's eyes, given legitimacy to people preaching hate.

The programme, Undercover Mosque, it said, uncovered matters of important public interest.

"Ofcom found no evidence the broadcaster misled the audience or the programme was likely to encourage or incite criminal activity.

"On the evidence, Ofcom found the broadcaster had accurately represented the material it had gathered and dealt with the subject matter responsibly and in context."

The programme featured recordings of speakers alleged to be homophobic, anti-Semitic, sexist and condemnatory of non-Muslims.

#1 Naughty Boy Wonder! There's plenty of reasonable Muslims around. I'm sure you could make a documentary down any local pub in Britain featuring speakers who homophobic, anti-Semitic, sexist and condemnatory of anyone who is a non-fat middle aged bloke.

#3. No I couldn't, Boab. Because I wouldn't have anything to do with people of that stamp. Unless they were being put up against a wall, and I was one of the archers chosen for the execution squad.

I think you make a basic mistake Boy Wonder. Islam can be interpreted as homophobic, anti semitic, sexist etc etc. Well so too could the Catholic church, if you want to make that interpretation. Are we going to send Dispatches in to the Rosevale Bar or Bar 67 and the like on match days and hear what is spouted there ? They don't represent Christianity, and fundamentalists don't represent Islam as it is practised.
