Carbon trading plan revived

THE government will today be urged to revive plans to introduce a system of personal "carbon allowances" as a way of tackling climate change.
A committee of MPs said the personal limits were likely to be more effective than new "green" taxes on high-polluting cars and airlines in changing the behaviour of individuals.

Ministers decided last month to wind down preparations on introducing a carbon trading scheme which would reward environmentally sustainable behaviour. But a report today from a cross-party group of MPs will say such radical measures must be considered if the personal and household sectors are ever to make a meaningful contribution to reducing global warming.

It sounds like the New Labour Sleaze and Corruption Party are determined to steal as much money from ordinary people as possible. This will be another thing to allow them to try and increase their list of direct, indirect and stealth taxes. Pity, for them, that it's gong to be unworkable.

The lunatics are stirring and as usual it doesn't look good for ordinary citizens. With CCTV on every corner, councils fining people for putting rubbish in bins, proposed ID cards and now this cr*ap, George Orwell obviously understated the case of state domination. Of course it doesn't matter that 'climate change' has been demonstrated to be a crock, the people who seek to control us are on a roll. Christ, how future generations will have a good laugh.

Look for P.A.T. to be added in a future budget.

P.A.T.?? Personal Air Tax. You heard it here first!

Oh, first it's carbon dioxide, now just plain old carbon is the most toxic element known to man. Next they'll be telling us that silicon (the most abundant element on earth) should be banned. No one believes the government's/IPCC's lies anymore. Manmade global warming is a fraud. It's political. All they want is tax. We're idiots for loving NuLab tyranny.

Sunspot cycles may hold key to global warming, cooling

The 2008 winter was the coldest in 40 years for the upper Midwest, Plains states and most of Canada. Minnesota newspapers report that this year's opening of the locks to Mississippi barge traffic, delayed by three weeks, was the latest since the modern waterway opened in 1940.

Carbon trading! Biggest con ever. They could give lessons to pyramid sales people. Anyway at the rate things are going we won't be burning much of the stuff since it's priced out of the market and economic activity will go into a decline. While this is going on the "carbon trading" and "carbon offsets" will be benefitting other countries who must be laughing up their sleeves at our naivete.

In th old days his used to be called rationing and was "popular" during and after WW II. However folks the whole thing is based on the CO2 lies and it will all come to grief when people realise they're being conned - yet again.

However I do hope that MPs are exempt, or at least get loads of credits to trade. After all they do have to keep multiple homes and have to travel all over the world on our behalf - investigating tram schemes in Fiji, the odd Global Warming conference in Bali and lots of miles to claim for in their big cars.

Well, the ones who would pay the most under this scheme are MPs, since they travel the most, consume the most, and do the least.

However, they will simply claim their carbon tax on expenses, and laugh at the rest of us.

What rubbish.

Meanwhile, Westminster is raking in the billions from Scotlands oil, which is destined to produce polution as soon as it is converted into fuel products.
How two faced (or more) can they get?

Best way is just to keep on increasing tax/cost of petrol/diesel but use the increased revenue to improve public transport/railways.

That way the cost of raising the revenue requires no silly sophisticated systems that usually are easily 'fiddled.

#14 Red Etin,

Lots of 'big' words usually hides a shallowness of understanding or a wish to confuse the issue.
Global Warming/Climate Change is a permanent feature of the atmosphere etc.
The real problem is accelerated climate change ie the climate is changing more rapidly than ever before so evidence has it.
Not to take this change seriously would be a gross misuse of our stewardship of the planet and a betrayal of those who come after us.
To take action to try to prevent/mitigate ACC may be akin to the Y2K problem. I was asked by someone in the 1990's whether it was 'real' or 'imaginary'. My comment was I believe it is just a scare BUT if you take action it may cost you and you may appear a fool if nothing happens but it would cost a lot more not to take action and would cost a heel of a lot more and could destroy you and I shall take action to make sure I am not affected.

Now the problem with ACC is a little like the Y2K bur FAR MORE SERIOUS IN ITS WORLDWIDE EFFECT - lets take preventative action and not leave it till the PROOF destroys us all.

So they can't tell us how many people come in and go out of our country, they can't calculate exactly how many people are in prison, where sex offenders are and a thousand other things. But they will be able to track the carbon footprint of 66 million of us, nearly all mobile, working, travelling, holidaying etc. What MBA N.O.B super genius thinks this will work. Give us all a break please.
