FORMER Rangers midfielder Jorg Albertz is poised to sign for Clyde. Although he will not be signed ahead of tonight's clash with Morton, he is likely to be fixed up by Saturday.
The German trained with Clyde last week and is ready to make a return to Scotland to help the First Division strugglers, who are trying to escape the relegation play-off zone.
Clyde manager John Brown is a former team-mate of Albertz, who played
for Rangers from 1996-2001, scoring 64 goals in more than 150 games. Brown said: "Although he is now 37 his fitness is good and he has not put on weight. I saw that for myself last week when he was with us.
"He is a good friend of mine and he is keen to help out and has a lot of feelings for this country.
"He has a lot of experience which would rub off on our young players and during games he will want to get on the ball and make things happen. It would be a great bonus to have him involved with the first team squad between now and the end of the season and hopefully it will happen."
Meanwhile, it was reported last night that Livingston have held talks with an Italian consortium, who are believed to have a budget of around £1 million to spend on players.
The Italians have identified a senior Scottish football figure who would oversee their investment and run the Almondvale club to showcase Italian and other players from overseas.
Livingston owner Pearse Flynn confirmed last week that several parties were interested in investing in the club, and the Italians are believed to value Livingston at more than the £600,000 proposed last week by businessman Eddie Ramsay.
Ramsay held talks with Flynn about a takeover which included the possibility of bringing dog racing to Almondvale.
The First Division outfit are currently in seventh spot in the table, with 29 points from 27 games.
