MARC COLEMAN claims Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy was wide of the mark with his 'arc of insolvency' remarks
I DON'T know which is more shocking about Jim Murphy's recent comments on Ireland's economy. As Secretary of State for Scotland, presumably carrying a degree of responsibility for managing Scotland's economy, the incompetence is staggering. More shoc...

Congratulations to Marc Coleman for giving us some some blunt truths straight from the shoulder - and to The Scotsman for printing them.

Wasting your breath Marc. The labour party are too busy whooping it up over the near collapse of the Bank of Scotland.

Perhaps Mr Murphy could tell us what happened to the Special Branch's London based "Irish Freedom Movement" after it collapsed. When did he swop his Celtic scarf for a Butcher;s Apron?

Pre-Budget reports for both the UK and Ireland will soon be published. Let's wait and make comparisons.

A wonderful article in response to the hysterical anti SNP bile coming from Jim Murphy and other British Nationalists like GB Gordon Brown who caused the banking crisis in the first place.

That's torn it, well as far as the unionists are concerned, but isn't it strange that there always seems to be a viable alternative to what unionist politicans and their supporters in the media purport to be the truth, and lets not forget those who spout away on posts like those you find on here.

Well said. Jim Murphy's remarks were deeply insulting and in no way represented Scotland's views.

Does it really take an Irishman to expose the lies of unionism? Maybe we Scots do deserve Brown, Murphy, London et al.

How unfortunate. Coleman's political slip is showing.

The “Celtic Tiger” died several years ago, replaced by domestic consumption and a housing boom which bolstered the headline growth rate but obviously couldn't last. Construction peaked at 30% of their economy; the European average is 6%.

Ireland is in recession, and that's projected to deepen next year. Unemployment is up 50% over the past year.

The country has uncommonly personal high debt levels: 190% of GDP, the highest in the developed world.

Ireland is running a large trade deficit. The Irish government warned only last week that their budget deficit may break through the EU limit this year.

The toll on competitiveness continues. Ireland has dropped to 22nd place in the latest competitiveness index, 12 below the UK.

I could go on.

The SNP's website still says that Scotland could be successful like Iceland, which is now bankrupt. This article seems to represent more of the same type of inward-looking self-delusion.

AM2. I hesitate to be rude but .... you are truly an idiot. When this recession is over then Ireland will still be vastly wealthier than Scotland . 30 % ? To our shame.
