In this respect, the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) is correct to keep a list of the most important world heritage sites and to lobby governments to preserve these for future generations.
So there can be no argument in principle against Unesco's director-general, Koichiro Matsuura, paying an informal visit to Edinburgh and casting an eye on the Old and New Towns, which received World Heritage status in 1995.

No, but heritage is about preseving what is there and is authentic - it's not about demolition of listed buildings, facade schemes and clone town large scale developments of dubious architectural merit

Caltongate should be halted. There should be a public inquiry.

For all the details, and a letter to send to the council urgently see:

and read the blog link too for daily updates.

i think you will find if you do any research what so ever that "Caltongate" does not exist! It is the name given to this awful project. The Canongate though has existed for centuries.
Pity the capital`s newspaper not for protecting the city from inappropriate development...I wonder why that is???

However - does whoever wrote this piece not even understand that Caltongate is NOT an area of Edinburgh? That it doesn't actually exist?

It's the clone name given by Mountgrunge for its clone development in the Old Town?

Oh WHOOPS?
