What a load of nonsense from John Swinney. Just because only 12% of Scots favour keeping the council tax does not mean to say the rest want a local income tax.
The whole concept of LIT is wrong - why should we all pay different prices for having our bins emptied etc.
Ability to pay has nothing to do with it, this is what we pay income tax nationally for.
The concept of the poll tax was actually much fairer in that the users of the services paid.
What is required is a more up to date version of the poll tax that does not get crucified by the media like the last one.

We all pay different prices for local services at presnt but it is based on size of house and no consideration to ability to pay.

Income Tax is fairest of all imperfect systems.

Ability to pay should have absolutely nothing to do with it. If that principle became the norm we would all be paying different prices for a loaf of bread !!
If you get a plumber in to fix a tap do you really expect to pay more than your neighbour because you happen to work for a living.
