DAVID Beckham's first campaign in Major League Soccer ended on Sunday when Los Angeles Galaxy lost 1-0 to Chicago Fire on the final day of the regular season.
Beckham was a 58th-minute substitute in a game Galaxy needed to win to claim a place in the MLS play-offs, having gone on a seven-game unbeaten run to come back from a seemingly hopeless position.

Ironically, it was another former Manchester United player - former trainee John Thorrington - who sealed the final play-off berth with a 93rd-minute winner for Fire.

But Beckham insists he will try to stay busy in the long winter before the new campaign gets under way next April. "I'm a person that likes to train and work every day," said the midfielder, who is hoping to be involved in England's final Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia on 21 November.

"That's the way it's been through my whole career for the last 15 years. I've never had more than three weeks off in the summer. I'm not going to know what to do with myself. I'll be keeping on training and keeping fit no matter what."

Galaxy and Beckham's own representatives have repeatedly ruled out the possibility of a loan spell during the winter.
