United kept pressing but with less conviction than earlier and all the time leaving gaps Killie promised to exploit on the counter.
David Goodwillie and Daly, both on target against Cowdenbeath in midweek, were thrown on for Feeney and Sandaza as desperation replaced inspiration.

The game fizzled out as United's hope was slowly sapped by Kilmarnock's determination to keep another clean sheet.

Kilmarnock moved to the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League with an impressive win over Dundee United at Tannadice.

Midfielder Gavin Skelton capped his first start for the Ayrshire side since signing from Gretna with his first goal just before the interval after the home side had dominated the first half.

A fine finish to a good move by Danny Invincibile in the 58th minute doubled the visitors' lead, and although United continued to press, Killie resolutely held out.

United now have (I think I've got the numbers correct here) TWO wins from the last EIGHTEEN SPL games.

I am honestly not sure why so many journalists were tipping us for a top 4 - even a top 3 - finish this year. What evidence were they basing their predictions on? Maybe they were just getting carried away like so many of our supporters who believed the hype and were touting us as a shoe-in for Europe. Clearly the players also believed the hype, and think they only have to turn up to win some of these games.

Reminder - two wins from eighteen games.

I've been watching United for long enough to know that they ALWAYS kick us in the nuts, and the brighter things are looking, the harder the kick.

How many games have we played since Robson left? Something like 22. We managed to win a couple right after he left, to cries of "see - we weren't a one man team" and "we're better without Robson".

Newsflash - WRONG! Two from eighteen after that.

So was it worth it for a million quid? I bet Celtc think so.

Not much we could do to stop him leaving, but there is no doubt whatsoever that he was worth a hell of a lot more than a million quid. He had a long time left on his contract. We could have played harder ball with Celtc. Mind you, the puir wee souls are a bit short at the moment. They haven't even sent United the money for the tickets they sold to their fans for the game at Tannadice 2 weeks ago. Maybe none of them knows how to work out what 5% of it is.

Since Robson left, we've also lost Kalvenes and Hunt. Kalvenes we could do nothing about, and he has been a massive loss. Hunt we could have kept, but financially it seemed like the right thing to do. Maybe it will still turn out to be the right thing to do. But IMO the loss of Robson and Kalvenes have exposed our flanks - particularly our left - and our defence is now found wanting more often than you would expect a Levein defence to be.

The defence has also lost the protection Mark Kerr gave them. T
