HOW much of a person's sense of humour is determined by their genes?
It's interesting to speculate with reference to this thoroughly charming comedy drama by Sonya Vine (Tim Vine's little sister) and Briony Redman. At the very least, the younger
Vine seems to share her older sibling's love of deliberately excruciating puns – unless of course all the puns in this show were written by Redman, in which case the whole theory falls to pieces.
Either way, the pair quickly set up a nice dynamic: Vine takes on the role of the catty perfectionist, while Redman plays at being sweet-but-simple, although she occasionally gives herself away with a knowing smirk.
After an introduction in which the duo continually bicker over their "Ten Rules of Drama and Suspense," we are plunged into a deeply silly haunted house play in which two separated-at-birth sisters discover that their father has died and travel to his creepy old mansion to meet each other for the first time. In an unexpected twist, it transpires that not only was their dad a superhero (the world-famous Napkin Man) but his two daughters have inherited special powers of their own. Just as well, because, inevitably, there's a murderer on the loose and the corpses soon start to pile up.
