THE official box office of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe was still not up and running last night – four days after sales were meant to get under way.
Thousands of festival-goers trying to buy tickets for shows have been thwarted because a new computer system has been malfunctioning.

All sales through the Fringe have had to be suspended – either online, over the phone or even in person at the Fringe's office on the Royal Mile – until the problems are resolved.

The Fringe Office runs the only box-office system selling tickets for all shows at the festival, although some of the larger venues are able to sell tickets for their own shows.

Callers at the Fringe Office yesterday were turned away and given a photocopied list of venue box-office websites.

Jon Morgan, the Fringe director, said he was hopeful ticket sales would be up and running from 10am today.

He added: "In view of the difficulties we've experienced this week, we've informed the public about alternative outlets."

They would be better with an Abacus, and easier to operate.

What a fiasco. Terminal 5 was less problematical.

I've tried making bookings every day this week. Yesterday they were guaranteeing the booking system would be operational today.

Today they've given up the ghost saying it won't be up and running till Monday! What a joke - people are just not going to bother. Bet the venues are fuming.

Blessing in disguise. Hope it remains broken and keep the tourist OUT - Edinburgh has had enough!

Today's Vote

Has the Fringe ticket fiasco put you off going to see shows at the festival?
Yes, I don’t want to risk losing money for nothing.
No, a little bit of hassle is worth the quality
I was already put off by unaffordable ticket prices
