Characteristic Lebrecht - we're doomed, I tell you, doomed. Only, this time round it's the EIF and not the entire field of Western "classical" music.

Nothing would dismay Lebrecht and many of his London-based colleagues more than the EIF being successful and going from strength to strength. After all, it was a London critic who described it in the late 1940s as "a gross impertinence".
