FALKIRK could pitch new striker Steve Lovell in against Rangers for Saturday's televised SPL opener after they last night finalised his Westfield arrival.
The 27-year-old Englishman has signed a one-year deal with John Hughes' side, with the option of another year, following his release from Aberdeen at the end of last season.
Lovell's move to the Bairns looked in danger of collapsing when he return
ed early from their training camp in the Netherlands last week after the two parties failed to agree on a financial package, alerting his other SPL suitors Hibs and Kilmarnock.
However, personal terms have now been agreed and the former Dundee striker's medical history given the all-clear. Lovell is Hughes' seventh major summer recruit, following the captures of Neil McCann, Jackie McNamara, Lee Bullen, Burton O'Brien, Arnau Riera (loan) and Dermot McCaffrey.
Falkirk managing director George Craig said: "Steve had a few options to weigh up and we're delighted he has chosen Falkirk. Everything had to be right for the move. We had one or two concerns, as did he. It was a signing that was never going to be done in a minute.
"Now it's happened, I'm personally delighted. Steve is quite a big signing for Falkirk. I hope the fans are excited at seeing him."
Lovell scored 20 goals in 76 appearances for Aberdeen yet was used mainly as a substitute last season.
