LOGAN:

Now that summer is coming, if there is one song worthy of turning up the volume, winding down your car window and shaking your uvula to, then it's When I Get Down by Logan, a hard rock anthem with that rare quality to convert a new fan on their first listen. The fact this Glasgow band remain unsigned is a mystery which may be solved after this summer's British tour, kicking off at the Oxford Academy on 12 July. They have self-released four studio albums with combined sales of almost 30,000 copies and enjoyed two top- 40 singles.

SOZË:

Four-piece from Glasgow whose music is based on a fusion of influences ranging from Zeppelin to the Doves and everything in between. Having just recorded their first EP the true essence of Sozë really shines through in a live scenario. The band take pride in their ability to stage an interesting live show blending rock, dance and acoustic sounds.

CORODE:

What do you get if you mix three Scotsmen and a Brazilian? One answer would be nuts in kilts, but in this case prepare for sweeping, anthemic, but still melodic heavy metal which offers the novel twist of featuring a gravel-voiced female singer. The band live up to their name, as their music continues to burn in your brain long after you switch off the iPod.

SECOND SUN:

A quick glimpse at their website would lead you to think they're a threat of Burberry-capped neds screaming at the top of their voices while doing handbrake turns in their souped up Ford Fiesta. They may fail at literacy, punctuation and anything beyond the most basic phonetic spelling, but listen in and you'll be surprised by sensitive lyrics, moody vocals and infectious songs from these Morrisseys of metal.

SHINE:

One listen to Gimme Your Love will have you ready for mid-Summer festivals. The band may be only a couple of years old and were formed by the clashing of disparate musical influences, namely the Beatles and Led Zeppelin, but John Rush and John McCauley's Paisley band are already making a growing name for themselves by successful support slots with the Zutons. Catch them this summer at the Fringe.
