THE Forestry Commission has received strong support in its bid to be the next owner of the Cairngorm Estate, which includes the ski area and funicular railway.
A consultation report on the proposed transfer of ownership attracted 79 responses from organisations and individuals, with 75 per cent in favour of the commission taking over.

Good news. Given the FC's enlightened position on recreation on its property, perhaps we could see the viability of the funicular enhanced by the creation of suitable cycle tracks in the corrie? If this was combined with removal of the existing - and largely redundant - ski infrastructure, we'd have a year-round facility which could be world class and guarantee a lot more jobs than the ski-ing ever could.

What has the removal of ski lifts got to do with creating cycle tracks?? Try looking at the webcams and you will see large numbers of people enjoying skiing on Cairngorm. Personally I am for both - imagine a cycle track from the summit down the Ciste side to link in with the tracks at Glenmore - that would be world class.
