FORFAR Athletic will this afternoon take delivery of the vital extra floodlights that will ensure Sky TV goes ahead with its money-spinning live coverage of tomorrow's glamour Homecoming Scottish Cup encounter with Rangers.
The Third Division club were told the satellite station would require brighter lighting to screen the match tomorrow evening following the postponement of the tie on the original date nine days ago. The Station Park outfit have forked out £8,500 for
two sets of floodlights, which will be erected outside the ground in the corners opposite the main stand in time for the match.

David McGregor, the Forfar secretary, explained: "We've got two banks of floodlights coming up from a company in Bolton. We had to pay a 50 per cent deposit which we wouldn't have got back if the game had been off, but we took the gamble and we're happy that the pitch is now perfect.

"Other clubs have had to do it, so we're happy to do the same and we're just desperate to get the game played now."

Forfar are expected to raise about £120,000 from the match thanks to a sell-out crowd and the revenue from Sky.

Meanwhile, Stenhousemuir's promotion push has been dealt a significant blow with the news that captain Steven Ferguson is set to retire next month to take up a coaching position at the Scottish Football Association.

Ferguson, who is also the Third Division outfit's first-team coach, is working a month's notice at Ochilview after landing the full-time post.

Manager John Coughlin said: "Steven Ferguson has got a three-year contract, so it's good security for him and it was an opportunity he could not knock back. He goes with our blessing and we are delighted for him."

• The Berwick Rangers and Annan Athletic clash which was postponed on Saturday has been rescheduled for Tuesday, 24 February, at 7.45pm.

• The Scotland against England Under-18 schoolboy international on 17 April at New St Mirren Park is to be shown live on Sky Sports.

Poor Calum Murray has proven his pro Celtic credentials by his continued denial and insistence that he called all the major decisions correctly on Sunday despite TV showing a stonewall penalty denied to Rangers after McManus crunched Miller in desperation inside the box. His denial and refusal to acknowledge this howler leads me to think that it was more than an over sight by yet another bent ref!

The problem was the desire not to get beat by either side was greater than the desire to win, NOT true Rangers Class in my opinion.

As for Forfar, Good on them for getting a few quid in the bank to make things healthy for the next couple of years.

The most outrageous decision of the 90 was the failure to send Weir off for pulling McDonald back from a run through on goal when he was last man.

Think yersel' lucky loddy.

But best of luck to Forfar. If they get their tails up they can give the rearrangerz a game alright. It's hard for the players to get motivated for a trip up to a place like Forfar, but for the homeside, this is like a champions league match. Therein lies the fickleness of these sort of contests.

The rearrangerz will think they need only show up, but the homeside will be champing at the bit to give their own fans something to cheer about.

Even so, it's hard to imagine any outcome other than a threadbears win.
But, I'll go for a ropey old 2v1 after a real dog-fight...3v1 max.

The Celtic hoard's again jam the phone in and complain about Lawell and Chesney as they already know that the end is nigh! This pitiful Celtic side would fail to win the SPL with a 30 point starty ...

So after the last OF game at PH the Celtic offended complain to MP's and anyone else that will listen and the as if by magic a delegate is sending reports about Rangers fans in the corresponding fixture! More proof if it were needed that Lawell and Celtic have the powers that be on a little string! Why no delegates report at any Celtic away games this season when fans behaviour has been more than questionable? One rule for one and another for everyone else! Is that not what can be described as discrimination?
