LES Steel and Dave Walker of Edinburgh won the National Pairs for the second year in a row with the enormous score of 65.56 per cent. Second were Jim Dennison and Duncan McGregor with 56.35 per cent.
On this deal the winners were destined to score badly when North-South bid a thin game.

North's invitation is dubious at pairs, and South's acceptance, with three points tied up in a QJ doubleton, would not be everybody's choice.
