IT'S time I intervened in the furore about Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore who, as I understand it, are more or less fictional characters. JK Rowling has decided Dumbledore, a wizard with a beard the size of Wales, is gay. Most of us welcomed this development as fairly normal. But, in Americashire, particularly in the middle bits which are far from the sea - and therefore weird - folks have gone doolally.
There, people actually believe the Bible, which is usually treated here as a source of entertainment, like Lord of the Rings or Viz magazine. As a result, they're not fond of gays, necromancers or Hittites, all of whom they'd like to smite. As Dumble...

This article was for me an irreverent and entertaining read. Of course Dumbledore's sexuality was self evident to all sentient creatures endowed with a modicum of intelligence from the very beginning and the book burners way out there in the Midwest have only themselves to blame for being too obtuse to spot this from day one.

I must have been having a Senior Moment." Then the Midwesters will be forced to offer forgiveness for her folly, and will flock out and buy back all the books they burned. Once they’ve all restocked, Dumbledore could turn gay again. Watch this space…

1# Much as I agree with most of what you say - you are getting your wizards mixed up. Ian McKellen was Gandalf. Richard Harris was the original Dumbledore followed by Michael Gambon.

#2 you are right about the late Richard Harris
see: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/1651390.stm
however the news is that Ian McKellen will take over this role from Harris:
