Published Date: 15 August 2008
THE Lithuanian sports television channel co-owned by Vladimir Romanov will begin broad- casting tomorrow with the match between Rangers and Hearts as its' first live project.
Sport1, Lithuania's first dedicated sports channel, aims to purchase rights for Scottish, English and Spanish football throughout the season as well as matches from the country's own league. Initial plans to screen Sunderland v Liverpool tomorrow ha
ve been scrapped, with resources instead spent on purchasing an international signal for the match from Ibrox.

"There are so many hidden meanings attached to Rangers v Hearts," explained Andrius Tapinas, Sport1's controller. "Andrius Velicka is a Rangers player now, they were defeated recently by FBK Kaunas and of course Hearts' ownership situation.

"There could be four or five Lithuanian players on the pitch at any one time and that is a great advert for the country's football."

Tapinas added that matches featuring Hearts and Rangers will take prominence for live broadcast in the coming months. "There are a lot of Hearts supporters in Lithuania now and we would hope to have some of them in the studio when matches are on," he said.

Meanwhile, Hearts have secured an option to make Danish striker Mike Tullberg's loan deal a permanent move.

The Edinburgh outfit negotiated a clause in the 22-year-old's contract which entitles them to first refusal should parent club Reggina choose to sell in May.

Tullberg, who will not recover from a thigh injury in time for tomorrow's trip to Ibrox, has revealed his long-term future could be at Tynecastle.

"Hearts have the option to buy me after the one-year loan. I would like to stay if possible and become a permanent player," he said. "I'm only thinking about this season but I would like to join the club on a permanent contract. I don't want to go anywhere else."

Manager Csaba Laszlo warned the player – who has three years left on his Reggina contract – would have to impress before Hearts exercised their option to buy him.

"Before we buy somebody, he must show us his best performances," Laszlo said.

"If Mike gives us good performances, he can have a very nice time in Edinburgh but, for someone to sign for this club he must give his best. It's important for Mike to be hungry and show everybody he wants to be here before we buy him."

David Obua will also not make his debut at Ibrox, Laszlo confirmed. The Uganda international became the Hearts manager's first signing when he was granted a work permit last week. But the club are still working with the Foreign Office to complete paperwork, meaning the 24-year-old former Kaiser Chiefs midfielder will not be ready for Ibrox.

"There is no rush for David," Laszlo told Hearts News. "He has a 10-hour flight to get here and probably won't be here until Friday so won't be playing against Rangers. He has four years to show what he can do for Hearts so there is no point in putting pressure on him to play."

Goalkeeper Janos Balogh has returned to Hungary with no decision made on any move to Hearts. The 25-year-old had been hoping to clinch a loan deal, but the Debrecen shot-stopper flew back to Budapest yesterday.

Why is it that we get to comment about this but not about Murray asset stripping Rangers?

What other players are likely to leave Ibrox before the end of the month?

Time for rangers supporters to call this man's bluff, he's used the same excuse too many times.

Reading the latest comments by Murray I think he'd be best to shut his mouth before it gets him into more trouble.

First their was his famous "for every fiver Celtic spend we'll spend a tenner" WHAT HAPPENED?

Then there was his deceit over the Hutton deal. WHAT HAPPENED?

Then less than a week ago he stated to LRFC fans "Cuellar is not for sale" WHAT HAPPENED?

Murray is really deceiving the Losers Rangers fans by saying his latest "everything is going well, we've sold all our season tickets and we're selling strips"

Add to this Murray's latest blamehound - the internet. Yesterday he said "there's a strong web culture out there that is spreading rumours and lies designed to harm the club"

Really? So selling Hutton, Cuellar etc that was all made up by footy surfers.

If Murray wants to survive this latest crisis, he really has to be more honest with Losers Rangers fans and more importantly more honest with himself.

Murray's exact quote as published by the Scotsman today;

"The problem is we have a web culture today and a media who read websites and don't have a relationship with football clubs any more and people want to make the situation worse," observed the chairman. "People are putting that on websites, knowing there's no truth in it at all, but just endeavouring to cause mayhem.

So now I know why Keith Jackson, Hugh Keevins, Ian King, Darryl Broadfoot, Bill Leckie and Jim Traynor talk rubbish. They are copying all Pundtit's and Bemused Exile's posts.

As the man said...Sad isn't it?

Now we see why the Kaunus keeper signed for us so quickly ........................

Tomorrow be prepared for new keeper , Zaliukas , Csanevicius and Miko all to play - Ivaskevicius to come on from off the bench.
Is that me back to my cynical ways or realism as Vlad tries to "woo" a Lithuanian audience".
I would be happy enough if they all played to their best as I don't care where they come from , but it wou;d smack of someone OTHER than Laszlo picking the team again.

I expect 3 of the 4 names you mentioned to play tommorrow. In fact we spoke about it during the week that Miko should play from the start. His pace against the rangers oaps will cause problems on the right while drivers pace on the left those two together will have the rangers old boys reaching for their inhalers and oxygen masks before half time. Zali and audrey we expect to play as well.

I will admit the signing of the new keeper some may say Vlad has interfered here BUT Csaba did say a couple weeks ago, HE himself would be looking at players from kaunas and would choose who he wants. His comments on the new keeper suggest he has chosen him, so far we have no reason to doubt anything, unless we are to start calling Csaba a liar.

The Hungarian keeper deal is not dead yet, as far as i know going by statements made he is coming back next week or so, so we may have 2 keepers out of this. Also I've heard Ledesma is on his way as soon as Kaunas go out the CL qualifiers (I would say if they went out, but it looks certain they will)

#14 busby, fair comment and hard to argue against re lithuanian players being played simply because it's being beamed back to lithuania. only thing is though, the keeper isn't lithuanian, he's a slovak, although granted there is a lithuanian interest in him having been at kaunas.

although kello may well have been hung, drawn & quartered already by some, due to him having fbk kaunas on his CV, who is to say that he is a worse keeper than the hungarian one? he may be, he may not be.

i think people may take their eye off the ball here with regards to who is or was the best keeper between those two, surely the more important question is...

is kello better than banks?

19

Who?,

15/08/2008 09:22:38
I wonder if romanov's new tv company could buy scottish/ uk rights to spl games too.

If he setup a web portal and did it for £5 ppv he could make a few quid especially if the games never involved the OF.

The coverage of scottish football this season is going to be pretty extensive but it would be nice to be able to watch a live spl game that wasn't obsessed with glasgow.

Think what we have to look at is the keepers International status Janos has only 1 cap for Hungary, Am i right in thinking Kello is first choice for Slovakia? Both are approx the same age. Csaba has watched Kello more than Janos, and watched him in competative matches, so at the moment im trusting his judgement on this. Time will tell whether he's been a good signing or not

These ideas have been looked at before, unfortunately theres laws governing the screening of televised matches in the UK. I think the law says something about not being able to screen a live football match between 3pm and 5pm on a Saturday within the UK. Obviously overseas countries are allowed to screen games, that is how some pubs sometimes pick up feeds from other countries and show them, but if caught they are told to close or switch off, and can be fined heavily.

CBJambo,

#21 spot on.

I am getting a little fed up of the attitude shown by many regarding Lithuanian players... Kaunus deservedly dumped rangers out of europe.

In Andrius Velicka, rangers have an excellent goal scoring forward (already the leading scorer at ibrox).

Miko, last saturday came on for a tiring Kingston and transformed the game... while Zaliukas and Cesnauskas had reasonable performances... all in all these players ARE getting better!

Ivaskevicius (or No 28!) has shown in fits and starts that he has talent and has already come on and scored against both celtic and the gers.

The new keeper Kello IS Slovakian and did well in the CL qualifiers and time will tell if he has what it takes to be the Hearts No 1.

While Hearts are controlled by Vlad we will ALWAYS have a Lithuanian contingent and in the main they are better than some of the youth coming through... they are not just there for the pay per view games!

We are part of the european union... good Scottish players are always welcome in our team... but not essential!

#23 GF, indeed. there is nothing that i can see to suggest (yet) that kello is in any way 'another kaunas dud' or somehow inferior to a hungarian keeper that none of us have any knowledge of.

what we do know is that stevie banks is a very reliable keeper who can organise his defence effectively. as bubsy and tam flogel were saying last night, you need communication to do that.

24

victorian of gorgie ,

#25 CBJ, i agree entirely. our lithuanian players are not necessarily as bad as they are made out to be. they are just as entitled to be excused for their bad form last season for the same reasons cited for the poor form of the other players, ie no motivation, poor coaching, etc etc.

csaba has the passion and seemingly the ability to improve all the players at hearts, liths included.

"there's a strong web culture out there that is spreading rumours and lies designed to harm the club"

Whatever gives the big galoot that idea? We all know the Rangers' dreadful reputation around the world is one of their own making :-

Barcelona 1972
Manchester 2008
Numerous other slightly lesser attrocities over the decades, too numerous to name.

The personnel employed are just as bad :-

T Forsyth
J Greig
T Hurlock
G Souness
G Roberts
Gregor Stevens
D Findlay
P Gascoigne

The lists of shame are endless, so is it any wonder the Ibrox outfit are seen as the ultimate 'fiend' amongst clubs?

It's more annoying when so called hearts fans quickly jump on the "They from kaunas or Lithuanian so must be duds" boat, especially when none of us know what these players are really like, people are judging on the duds we have had in the past, where are they now? shipped out. Every club signs duds, just look at Hibs for a prime example, and it wont be the last time we sign a dud player either, but to jump on the managers back or instantly blame Vlad as soon as an unknown arrives or if a player arrives and isnt as good as expected is a bit much. There are enough Hobos and other fans out there reading to put Csaba, Vlad, hearts and hearts fans to the sword without our own fans giving them ammunition when its not justified.

#30 GF, again correct. i'm certain that these types would start wailing from the rooftops about 'duds' if we were to sign the lithuanian national keeper karcemarskas, who is an excellent goalkeeper.

it's only performances that count, not nationalities, not previous clubs.

csaba still has to have the authority to pick the best performers and we will see if that happens in the coming weeks.

30

GrahamL,

#23 I'm not sure Kello has played for the national team (at least, not according to the ever reliable wikipedia).
Nevertheless, seems unfair of anyone to judge him before we see him - and even more unfair to judge Csaba on the basis of him signing.
I've said before, I don't have a problem with Csaba bringing in players from any part of Vlads army - as long as he makes the call.
If this guy turns out to be any good then we're all happy, if he turns out to be mince - but still ends up first choice, then we start getting a bit concerned...
31

victorian of gorgie ,

15/08/2008 10:04:43
another question i would have about the process of choosing a goalkeeper to bring in would be the level of input given to the club goalkeeper coach, stevie banks.

not that we will ever find out but i would really like to know. i would have thought it would make sense to place a lot of emphasis on his opinion.

and there's a possible conflict of interest there too...

I dont think there is any conflict of interest on this one VI.
Csaba has stated a couple of times now that banks cannot and will not be allowed to play and coach. This young SLOVAKIAN is his replacement, when he starts is open to question but it would not suprise me if he played after the Rioters game.
I wouldnt want the Rioters to be getting any extra motivation playing against the keeper that scuppered their season before it even began.

Very surprised that PundTIT has the nerve to show himself especially after he made such an complete @rse of himself before and after the Kaunus game. Perhaps hes back bragging again because he now feels that the Rioters are favourites. They must be of course because Murray told us all yesterday that Rangers were a great team having won 2 cups and narrowly missed out on the UEFA cup. Presumably since Hearts finished 8th last year, anything other than a 5-0 win for the Rioters against Hearts will be regarded as a failure.

I'm not sure it would be any of Steve Banks' business which players are brought in and who he has to coach.

He can make a judgement when he arrives based on his ability and approach to training but I doubt many coaches - especially ones so inexperienced as Banksy - are consulted prior to bringing players in.

I think its unfair to criticise people who are basically just a bit scared that this will start happening all over again. Romanov has quite a bit of 'previous', in insisting Lithuanian duds get to wear a Hearts shirt, Kurskis and Barasa should never have worn maroon, same with the Polish centre forward who's name escapes me.
The problem with most of the rest is that whilst not 'duds', (they are often reliable journeymen at best- Kancelskis being a good example), they were clearly given the shirt in advance of better players because of thier Nationality.
This is what has created the concept of the Lithuanian dud, Hearts fans did not just dream it up.
I believe the present cohort of Lithuanian players to be of a reasonable standard who can improve immensely with good coaching. (Look at whats happened to Velicka).
Miko has great natural skill but he needs to work on his work-rate, positional sense, defensive capabilities. (I still beleive with Miko, one day a door may open and he'll walk through it and become a top player).
Zaliukas requires to maintain his concentration and positional sense, Audrey dwells on the ball too long.
Cesney is always talking about how good he is but hes had long enough in my opinion and should be binned, too light-weight.
I agree Miko should play tomorrow, on the right to allow Kingston to move inside, playing off the front, with Audrey dropping out.

To those that kindly reminded me that the new keeper is Slovakian I am well aware of his nationality and was last night - when posting that I was baffled by the last minute turn around with goalie appointments - My point was that apart from Lithuanians (of whom I have no gripe about) he being the ex Kaunus keeper would stir up added interest with the audience in Lithuania. I only hope that Vlad plays him on merit - not because of where he plied his trade and viewing figures. If he IS better then Banks we have some keeper.
Going by form of the last two keeper signings I will wait and see (with fingers crossed) REMEMBER with pseudo dictators - old habits die hard. Suddenly giving autonomy away is easier said than done - lets hope Vlads input is kept restrained.

If you look at it in a slightly more positive way then it surely must suit Vlad and his new found tv buddies to have something on the pitch that is worth viewing.
If he hasnt learned by his past mistakes with regards asking for certain players to be played then he is a bigger clown than all of us imagined.
If Vlad can up the profile of the SPL then surely it has to be for the benefit of every club and it will also highlight to a wider audience the......shall we say.....Bias towards the ugly sisters.

We are all sitting with baited breath hoping he doesn't mess this up. I only renewed my ST days before the league started, now in my 20th year. But the signs so far from Hearts mainly the manager is Csaba is being allowed the auonomy we all wamnted in a manager, and until we all know for certain otherwise Im not going to start making assumptions that Vlad is back to his old ways again.

Regarding the new keeper- there have been some good posts on the subject and a few that are slightly patronising.

The guy needs to be given a chance to prove himself, maybe 5- 10 games on the bounce. He will make mistakes and he will no doubt have some good games, once his performances have leveled off then we will get a more acurate picture of his abilities or otherwise.

The only thing that concerns me is the way hearts treat new players from different countries. Moving to a new job in a new country and having to learn/ communicate in a new language is a very trying experience which many people struggle with at the beginning. Being a footballer puts you into immediate limelight which can be an extra factor which i would imagine will make things slightly more difficult.

Since Vlad took over numerous players who have been in the same situation have complained about the lack of support the club (as an employer) have offered them and their families. If hearts can take care of these guys off the field and provide support to help them get ajusted to life in edinburgh you will no doubt see a very motivated and productive player on the pitch.

Why is John Greig on your list of shame.

A fanatical jambo in his boyhood who captained the Scotland team to a legendary 3-2 win at Wembley in '67.

Also a true gentleman if you ever get a chance to meet him. Sure he was a hard player, but so was Dave McKay and countless others when the game was far more physical.

#66,

True, he had his good points, but I have memories of him from the early seventies as the footballing equivalent of a Mafia hitman!

Perhaps his Scotland credentials should overwrite his thuggery of his later playing years. I'll replace him with Colin Jackson!

What a spectacle...A team that got knocked out of europe against Luthianian no hopers(beaten soundly by Aalborg) against a team that finished 8th last year...

sound like a nil-nil to me...

The Riot Survivor is currently crusading for the cause of the righteous in far off lands.

However news reaches me that Raging Ranger Syndrome is flying off the richter scale at home!

Looks like the prophetic revalations of the Riot Survivor are coming to pass.

1 - ReaRangers oot a Europe to Kaunas
2 - Ugly Betty hunted for the money

While my home kingdom descends into chaos in my absence - know this!!

I shall return!

#72, no the 12th man will be and always has been the weak minded t*** that calls himself a referee. men number 13 and 14 will be the ones running up and down the lines with their intermittent eyesight.

your plague of locusts in the stands can be described as your 15th man.

65

Who?,

#72- The ref will be rangers 12th man and his linesment rangers 13th and 14th men.

The laptop loyal will be the 15th, 16th, 17th...... After all they will never report the dodgy decisions or the collusion.

72 BTO - the Riot Survivors prophetic revelations normally occur after 12 pints of Guinness and a couple of cheeky Jack D and coke chasers.

The characteristics demonstrated during the visions are often described as being comparable to the manic states which ancient yogi's and fakhirs adopt in many tribes. It can be quite scary for those who observe it.

However your post at no 72 and the suggestion that ReaRangers will turn on the style is the sort of pyschotic delusion which could get you locked up mate.

As if to mirror Sir Mintys Double Dutch style of address, Steve McClaren has been interviewed using a cod dutch accent (think Dick Advocaat meets Derek Trotter) very funny ..check out the vid lol

I see that rioters have signed Mendez from portsmouth- is this wise?

Portsmouth, Rioters and Willie McKay are all facing charges over dodgy transfer dealings and the 3 combine to transfer this guy.

Get the feeling Bain is at the point of suicide!

So glad the game will be screened live!! In the states it is tough to watch the mighty jambos. Anyone have any thoughts on the team selection tomorrow? I wonder what the mid field will shape up like.

I reckon every Hearts fan that exists could not fit in to Ibrox total.

Look at the attendance at Murrayfield when Hearts played a big club like Barcelona.

BTW Plumtit can you thank Watty for me fo rhis excellent scouting job for the Champions.

'The problem is we have a web culture today and a media who read websites and don't have a relationship with football clubs any more and people want to make the situation worse'

presumably then Murray doesn't want these people to watch Rangers games on television, or buy replica strips and other merchandise?

#88 BLEEDING HEART

Trouble is...they're the ones singing tonight.
I reckon we are as bad as ever after a promising performance last week, we're back to the old days of headless chickens but with a demented trackside manager.
We need to spend, and big, but it's increasingly obvious that OUR biscuit tin is empty this time.
I'm not confident that we're gonna be measurably better than last years eighth place....seventh, sixth maybe...but it's still p15h!!

#89 I can't disagree with anything you've said, friend.

But it's because "hundit" knows the likelihood is he will be "the one singing tonight" that he "supports" Rangers.

He doesn't have what it takes to support a team outside the OF. Psychologically, he needs the relected "glory" of supporting a team that usually wins trophies.

His disappearing act following the 0-4 drubbing from Liverpool bears this out. Couldn't take it & ran and hid away.
