HEARTS midfielder Ian Black admits he is planning to help the supporters forget all about the loss of Bruno Aguiar – but does not want to be compared to the Portuguese playmaker.
The former Inverness player officially put pen to paper on a three-year-deal with the Tynecastle outfit on Monday after initially agreeing a pre-contract in January whilst at the Caledonian stadium.

Black's arrival in Gorgie comes just days after
Aguiar signed for Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia.

Even though both Black and Aguiar have a natural tendency to play the ball along the ground and are off similar height, the 24-year-old insists he is keen to avoid being likened to the departed midfielder.

Black said: "I would never put myself in someone else's shadow, I am my own player. I know we are playing in the same area but I hope the fans don't put me in that same category as Bruno either. We are different styles of players, I know he did great at Hearts and he is a great player but I want to go in and make a name for myself and do the club proud; I don't want to be in anyone else's shadow.

"My aim is to go in and establish myself and get the fans behind me, do what the fans and the manager want me to do."

Black's five-year spell in the Highland's ended in misery as Caley Thistle were condemned to first division football with defeat to Falkirk in the final game of the season. However, Black admits he can't allow himself to dwell on the past as he prepares to begin pre-season training under Csaba Laszlo on 2 July.

He added: "It was disappointing, we believed we were capable of staying up. It was a hard one to take but I have moved on and I am looking to win stuff with Hearts.

"I just can't wait to get started, I am counting down the days until pre-season begins. I was in at Tynecastle on Monday getting everything sorted out. I went in to sign and I asked to have a look around, and I had a right good feeling. It was a proud moment to eventually just sign the contract, it was great and I was always itching to do it. I was always on the phone to my agent asking, when was I to come in?"

Black, whose father – Ian – played for Hearts between 1977 and 1980, is also relishing the prospect of competing in Europe for the first time in his career, with Hearts entering the inaugural Europa League one round prior to the group stages.

The former Tynecastle ballboy added: "It's going to be a great experience whether we win that qualifying game or not. I am sure the rest of the boys will be looking forward to it, they have done well to secure it. I will just hopefully go and try and break into that team as they are more or less going to be first choice until I make a name for myself."

A wise move by the ex-highland clod-hopper but not exactly headline stuff. I wouldn't want to be compared against someone who was considerably better than me.

I've been told by a pretty sound source that a couple of season age the Hobos tried to sign him themselves and he told them to shove it. But aye, the Hibs scouts/coaches/management have a cracking eye and great intuition when it comes to players, remember Paul Hartley? He played for the mankey mob and was pumped for not being good enough! And what happened next? Several Scotland caps, Champions League experience with Celtic and in my opinion, the creme de la creme, a Scottish Cup semi-final hat-trick against the hopeless Hibees in front of a sell out Hearts support and all the plastic seat disguised Hobo fans!

But lets not get carried away, the boy might be pants, but then again, he might turn into a Scotland regular, get some Champs League experience (okay, now I am getting carried away!!) and maybe, just maybe we could see another hat trick against the great unwashed.

I think he is a pretty good player and he deserves a chance - by that I mean a run in the team to do well. I certainly hope he doesnt have a bad couple of games and then sections of support get on his back like they did with Elliot etc.

Its like poetry corner in here...

"Even though both Black and Aguiar have a natural tendency to play the ball along the ground and are off similar height". Oh, so they must be twins separated at birth if their 2 midfielders who pass the ball and are around average height!

Not sure why you would even compare Black and Aguiar, very different types of midfielder, from what I saw of Black at Inverness he's much more defensive and I dont think he'll get anywhere near the goals/assist total of Aguiar.

However, I actually think he'll be a decent signing, may not quite live up to #18's billing but the Inverness fan I know said he always thought Black was a standout in their team and would be an assest to any team in Scotland outside the OF. Would have taken him at Hibs on a bosman no problem.

What a disgrace. Hearts are stealing the best players from other SPL teams only to weaken them. This is a fact - simply coz everyone knows it to be a fact.

Hearts should develpp their own youth policy instead of stealing players from other SPL teams in order to weaken them and maintain their rightful place in the upper regions of mid-table mediocrity!

Anyway, it's a myth that the Smiths (i.e. Morrissey) is all misery - many of the songs are very funny and all are uplifting in their way.

#39 Morrissey has many admirers and has influenced so many bands over the years, e.g. Suede, Pulp, The Killers (Brandon Flowers is a huge fan). Russell Brand is obssessed with him and even called his cat Morrissey (this may not be a good thing!)

Inverness supporter here.

#26 True. Black is more defensive than Aguiar (although he's not a defensive mid).

Hibs did try to sign him on a Bosman. He spoke to both Edinburgh teams but went to Hearts. I hoped he'd go to Hibs myself. Nothing against Hearts but that tough but creative midfielder seemed just what Hibs were missing. Think he'd do well there.

"Ian Astbury of The Cult ripped Morrisey off with his stage antics and many words for The Cults songs"

Moz used to be the singer in a band where Billy Duffy (Cult) was the guitarist. Band called Ed Banger and the Nosebleeds. Vini Reilly (from Viva Hate! and the Durutti Column) was also in it (though not at the same time as Morrissey)
42

Newcastle Jambo,

#41 Impressive bit of Moz knowledge there. Do you think Billy Duffy could have been the subject of William It Was Really Nothing or was it, as widely speculated, Billy McKenzie of the Associates?
