HEARTS winger Andy Driver admits he is dreaming of starring in this summer's Under-21 European Championships with England alongside some of the best young players in the world.
The left-sided midfielder is in Stuart Pearce's 23-man squad for the finals in Sweden which begins next Monday with England kicking off the tournament against Finland.

The 21-year-old is hoping to shake off a troublesome back injury to give Pearce
food for thought in tonight's warm-up game against Azerbaijan in Milton Keynes. And the Oldham-born player, who has represented Scotland at youth level, admits he is having to pinch himself at the prospect of lining up with and playing against Europe's top players.

He said: "It's strange seeing my name on a list with the likes of Theo Walcott, Gabriel Agbonlahor and James Milner.

"I was nervous when I first joined up with all these big names but they've been brilliant with me, they're all sound guys and maybe not what you would expect.

"This is a golden opportunity for me to reach a wider audience. The tournament is live on Sky TV and when you see the players involved, I've dreamed of mixing it with some of these guys.

"Spain have Bojan (Krkic, the Barcelona striker] and Diego Capel of Sevilla. Italy have Mario Balotelli of Inter so that shows the standard of player in the tournament.

"It's incredible to think the first ever squad I've been called in to is for a major tournament – I've been saying to everyone it's just mad."

Driver reckons impressing in Sweden would boost his own and the SPL's image. He added: "It's a chance to show people the Scottish league isn't as bad as everyone says it is.

"This could help me further my career. I'm not saying I want to move from Hearts yet but I can put myself on the map and show people what I'm made of."

I would love it if he would wait until the rules between the home counties change and then he is eligible for Scotland. He would certainly get more caps for us.

Taken from the returd within an article about the new Darkhead manager's position.......................just thought some folk might want to see a cut and paste effort before certain journalists do the same.

Meanwhile, the Hearts manager, Csaba Laszlo, last night told Celtic they would have been wasting their time if they had pursued him to take over from Strachan.

Laszlo said: "Some people have said I may be among the nominees for the position.

"I have received another offer, too, but I have a mission to complete at Hearts and I hope the owner, Vladimir Romanov, will support me in that.

"Anyway, I hear the West Bromwich Albion manager, Tony Mowbray, who has close links with the club, is now Celtic's first choice."

Laszlo returned from his brief summer break on Friday to begin plotting his side's SPL and Europa League assault next term.

He said: "We are still six or seven players away from really competing in the SPL and we also have Europe to think about. I'm looking for good footballers but don't want just anyone.

"We have already signed up two new players who can improve the side and more new arrivals are expected in the next week or two."

The Hungarian has already identified transfer targets in his homeland. He said: "I have a couple of Hungarian players in mind but I don't want to name any names because if I say who I want they will become more expensive overnight."

#4 And here was me thinking that tapping up was illegal as well. Must be a poor secret if the Hearts manager knows it's Mowbray.

Thought Celtic did things the right way as well and the £100k fine from the SFA for tapping up Tommy Burns was a one off.

Mind you, if Rangers can tap up the Scotland manager and get away clean I suppose Celtic have nothing to fear from the SFA.

Defo shouting for Driver to have a great competion his market value will shoot through the roof,i would rather see him leave Hearts for top money thats if you believe the folk who says he is off after this competition ends.

Question is if he is the Star man for England then his worth will rise even further around Europe.

CHEERS

Good Luck Andy
