Published Date: 26 August 2008
NEW Hearts signings Mike Tullberg and Janos Balogh are in line to make their debuts in tomorrow night's Co-operative Insurance Cup clash with Airdrie at Tynecastle.
Tullberg, a Danish striker, recently moved to the Gorgie club on a one-year loan deal from Serie A outfit Reggina, while Balogh could become the team's fourth goalkeeper in as many games after agreeing a six-month loan move from the Hungarian side
Debrecen.

With striker Christian Nade also desperate for game time as he bids to reach full fitness, manager Csaba Laszlo is poised to make changes to the line-up which rattled up a second consecutive home victory in Saturday's 2-1 victory over St Mirren.

He said: "If we get (international) clearance in time then Janos will possibly play, and I think we will also look to use Mike Tullberg.

"Christian Nade has also done extremely well and I am very happy with him. This may be a good game to give him a chance to start."

Laszlo handed debuts to new recruits David Obua and Marian Kello against St Mirren and he knows his increased options will lead to greater problems in keeping his large squad of players happy.

Although he is also considering drafting in midfielders Ruben Palazuelos and Eggert Jonsson – two players who have been the victim of more competition for places – and others against First Division Airdrie, Laszlo is adamant victory is the priority.

He added: "Yes, of course I want to win the game. We must win the game. This is the most important thing on Wednesday.

"However, we must also look to give time on the pitch for some players who have not featured, so we will look to other first team members and even some of the younger players."

It will be good to get a look at Tullberg and probably a decent idea to allow him to ease himself into the less intense atmosphere of the CIS Cup rather than the SPL.

Yeah I might do that if I can work out how to get in from the kind instructions left by some on other threads.

I felt quite miffed by that accusation which I thought was quite unfounded

#1.We're all just so lucky that you managed to remove your toungue from murrys ring long enough to make that post pundito!
Lets face facts, vlad could go out and spend 8mil and not win the league too but whats the point? Murry knows rangers have no chance for the league again and only spent all that dosh to stop the fans getting their poor wee panties in a bunch, run about greeting like wee girls with skint knees. Getting knocked out of europe by a countries champions is not that big a deal, theyve been used to getting beat off this countries champions for the last 3 years ...

I'm not sure that even an £8m expenditure would secure the league or even second the way the refs blatantly favour the OF. (The offside against the sheep aside of course as that was a genuine mistake which you can bet the beaks at the GFA will punish severely)

Here is the link to the BBC Sport Predictor:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/sportscotland/predictor/

I have set-up a minileague for all posters on here willing to join.

It’s just a bit of fun and it starts with next weekend’s SPL fixtures.

All you need to do is go to the link and create your own membership. Try and make your user id as close to the one you use on here, so we all know who you are.

NB. If you are already registered and have points on the board, please re-register with a slightly different user id for this minileague, so that everyone starts on ZERO points.

Once you’re in, select “My Minileagues” and enter . . .

The Scotsman Forum

. . . as the minileague name.

The password is . . .

thescotsman

Once you have joined the minileague, you can start making your predictions. You get 1 point for a correct result and 3 points for a correct score. After each set of fixtures you can check the minileague table to see where you are and who is on top etc.

Enjoy it. It’s just a bit of fun.

THE SCOTSMAN FORUM MINILEAGUE

I have had to remove the following members from the Predictor minileague:

cailean
Deviskan
GreenhitthebluenoseNZ
herefordhearts
jamboben98

This is because you joined with the same user id you have been using since the start of the season and already have points on the board.

So that we can all start on ZERO points and a level playing field, please re-register under a new user id, which is what I did. I was originally regeistered as HarlemTam, but for The Scotsman minileague, I am Harlem_Tam, so as you can see, your new user id can be only slightly different.

I apologise for removing you guys, but the thing won't work if people go in with a head start.

Thanks

I hope Ruben and Eggy get a game tomorrow night but also that we keep a similar shape to our line up,its too easy just to throw in a lot of diff players then end up chasing the game if we loose a goal.
since it only cost me £8 I am really looking forward to this one and hope we get through.

I'd like to see Nade and Tullberg together, not that Nade is a goalscorer, but he does take on a man and creat problemns for defences. Tullberg we are told is a goalscorer so we will get the chance to see if there's merit in that statement.
I think we've done really well this season so far, and when you consider we have tinkered with the team in those three games it makes it even more remarkable.
It's one thing giving a keeper a run out against a premier league team and quite another against Airdrie, so I don't expect to get much of an idea of how good this guy is on Wednesday.
I heard somewhere we were in talks with another player, but that seems to have slipped by the sports writers.

#19 h*ndit - No doubt you'll be sleeping off another Buckie-fuelled venture into the wee small hours at this time.

109 trophies? In a set-up where "your" team enjoys huge advantages in terms of resources and collusion from authorities and match officials?

Some achievement, eh?

Most people who supported a club with these advantages and successes would be modest about it. Someone bigger & stronger who mocks others weaker than himself is a bully, is he not?

Do you enjoy being a bully, h*ndit?

No wonder Scotland laughed at the Kaunas result...

#13 puntit - saw the Beasley 'goal' for the first time last night and my first impression was that the linesman was correct. Boyd WAS coming away from goal but the moment the ball was played in he turned and at least 2 Aberdeen defenders reacted....therefore he was interfering with play.

Maybe if Boyd wasn;t so fat he could have got back onside in time?

It will be a good game for Jonsonn (if fit) and Palazelous to stake a claim also a good session for Nade,if he puts it in still think he has a couple of stone to go IMO good to see Tullberg also we are looking a lot stronger just now and this is the perfect choice for a couple of players to push for a start

I think a fit Nade will be a great player given time...he is built like the proverbial bricksh#*house and will make space for Tullberg...

When you see the players we have in the 1st team pool - if Csaba can get them playing as a team then 3rd place should be ours!!!

He cant last 90 minutes and he is only 23 years old

can't see tullberg being a prolific scorer based on his stats so far in his career, but you never know, he's still a very young player.

legend in his own lifetime clum seems to be being hoyed to livi on loan. great, let the real strikers get on with the job at hand at hearts.

if that's nade fitter than he was when csaba took over then he must have been some sight. he's still enormous. could be a losing battle trying to get him to look anything like a fit player.

I dont think he will be shy having a shot on goal,we had a free kick on the edge of the box he wanted but Kingston took over he also wanted the penalty so hopefully he will play further up front and start banging them in

Morning all. I just wanted to say that having lifted my long standing, self-imposed Tynecastle boycott on Saturday following Laszlo's appointment and recent developments, I was impressed with the improvements that he is making.

The only failing on Saturday was the lack of a cutting edge up front and I would prefer to see two strikers at home.

It was clear that the players had real motivation, team spirit and direction and generally knew what they were doing - i.e. there was evidence that there is a real manager in charge for the first time in almost 3 years.

The positives for me included Mole's great goal (which will hopefully give him more confidence to get into more scoring positions and to have a go in the box), a promising debut from Obua, a strong performance in the holding role from Karipdis, a good partnership between Berra and Zaliukas and, most of all, an outstanding display by Mikey Stewart who ran the game. I agree with Gourge Foulkes' comments yesterday that Stewart should be captain.

The Kaunas goalkeeper had little to do but still didn't convince me and I'd rather have seen MacDonald. Still, 5 players in the side who have come through the youth ranks and others on the bench is a great testement to value of the Riccarton set-up (a pre-Romanov legacy).

With several others yet to appear this season including Tullberg, Balogh, Jonsson, Neilson, Aguar, Besliga and Glen, I am more optimistic than for a long time.

Morning to you to "The Wookie". and top o the mornin' to fellow Jambo's aropund the globe.
This would be a great forum if we could somehow tackle the infestation. The PLANKS feed on attention and sadly they get it too often.
I heard that the club have been trying to get some Craotian geezer in, and have had an offer to an Italian players agent turned down. My source tells me that Csaba and Vlad have been active but unsuccessful lately.
Our big problem right now is that we can't move players on...something that Jim Jeffries was a master at. Times have changed of course but we definitely need a "clear oot".

38

Newcastle Jambo,

26/08/2008 09:56:51
#42 Fair comment. I admit, I was surprised by how well Zaliukas played. Mind you, he and Berra had virtually nothing to do but still lost a sloppy goal and allowed St Mirren a sitter at the end that should have earned them a wholly undeserved point. Karipidis was excellent in the midfield holding role and I can see him holding on to that position.

By the way, I could hear loud and clear that the fans don't rate the lad Thomson but I thought he had a good game.

Kingston was disappointing - he has such obvious ability but doesn't get involved enough. It looks like a lack of desire / hunger on his part. WIth a Paul Hartley or Mikey Stewart-like work ethic he'd be some player.

Its never been as bad as scaremongers made out, in the long term picture, short term, it has been very ropey in periods.
Like yourself though, I think we are heading into calmer waters, and we do indeed have many options in certain areas.
I would say though, even with Karipidis doing ok, I'd rather see Jonsson or Palazuelos play that role, they are more natural in the centre though Christos is probably sounder defensively.

#24 BLEEDING HEART
It ill befits any of us to "mock" supporters of another club, in any circumstances, tempting though it may be.Hooliganism and anti-social activities are not the exclusive province of our Glasgow rivals much as we'd wish to paint it so.
The choice of which club we follow is (in most cases) decided when we are very young by a combination of circumstances, often encouraged towards one team or another by family/friends/peer pressure, and what kind of football would we have if everyone supported only one of only one or two teams. It is in effect for many of us, an accident of birth.
Fact is that the greatest hope for overcoming the negativity that surrounds our game, is that more and more people are encouraged to support their local team, and slagging off someone for supporting Hamilton, Airdrie, or Aberdeen etc. serves no purpose inasmuch as we then miss the REAL target in scottish football, namely that of OF dominance..where fans pour out of every town and city (and yes, Edinburgh too) to head for the Bigot Palaces in Glasgow. That's the challenge for ALL non-OF football fans, and Hearts (as one of those best able resource wise to challenge them) have a greater incentive than most to help foster a wider inclusiveness of the game throughout Scotland to lessen the OF stranglehold.
Why isn't it possible, while still supporting our own club, to pay due respect to the efforts, inevitably in very difficult economic circumstances of all the other clubs who strive towards a stronger challenge to the OF?. Is it not the case that if we cannot win the cup/league ourselves, we'd wish one of the other clubs every success (aye,...even the Hibees) in any final or whatever. Too often our own parochialism comes back and bites us, limiting the possible success of us all....and shouldn't we be asking ourselves why Edinburgh, our capital city and with roughly equivalent population to Glasgow, is sadly unable to compete with our w

NJ Funnily enough I think Thomson looks as if he's improving. Not so good against Well. Wallace had an in and out match but probably explained by the point he was ill. The goal was a mixture of Thomson losing out aerially and Obua sleeping, Berra and Zali were blameless.
The keeper reminds me of the old Clash song, Should I stay or should I go now, he seemed indecisive even with the little on offer, but its understandable he would be nervous.
I reckon this guy on Weds will be fave.

#45 Great minds etc! A real manager with some credibility and authority is what's been so badly needed since we last had one in Oct 2005. Now we have to hope he's allowed to do his job without interference and is given time. Any manager needs 2 or 3 seasons before he can be properly judged and it's 4 years since we had one who has been given mnore than a few months in the job.

There's still too many players not good enough for hearts in the team.

Thomson, Wallace, Zaluikas are just not good enough and are all liabilities. Even though Karapidis has done ok there i would rather see him at centre back with Ruben in DM.

51

Chas Niceass,

26/08/2008 10:32:16
I still prefer Robbie to Jason, but Jason could be a decent back up, similar to Grant Murray all them years ago possibly.
Zali gets pelters but I think he has all the makings of a decent player, but he does need guidance and confidence. Full backs are more of a concern to me still than the central pairing.
Kingston is a worry though, he can do better, like so many have said, if he does then we will be laughing.
Finding the right area for him is the problem.
Cesny, I have a wee soft spot for, was glad to see him on early 2nd half, I thought he gave us more edge, Driver on the right is a bad idea in my view.

Thats what I thought until watching several replays - Berra was standing marking no one - same as happened a few times last season........I'm a fan of Berra by the way - could end up a great player for us and Scotland , but he wanders the odd time same as Zaliukas.
Someone like Pressley or Jardine could have worked the proverbial oracle with both of them.(positioning , timing and marking etc)
53

victorian of gorgie ,

26/08/2008 10:34:55
zaliukas doesn't half get a bad rep, unjustly sometimes imo. as huggs says he's hardly put a foot wrong in the opening games. he was panned by some for motherwell's first goal 2 weeks back when hughes went past him, to be honest he had to leave hughes when he did because he was a cert to concede a penalty if he's put in a challenge, cert red card as well. he was panned by some for the second goal too, even though it was makela who was to blame for taking an elephant touch in midfield.

lose a goal, blame zaliukas seems to be an easy opt-out at times.

keep up the better form zali and you'll win them round in the end.

54

Chas Niceass,

26/08/2008 10:45:28
#58 Fair point, re Jardine, Pressley. A good talker would help either of them, but they were actually one of the plus points of the season before last, they had a good partnership.
To be fair to the defence theres always a pressure if the forwards dont finish a game off, but we are losing poor goals thus far.
55

Jambo-ree,

26/08/2008 10:45:30
Good to hear Zali is playing well again. I liked him and Berra together a while back but he did seem to lose it during last season. Good to have healthy competition for places but we still need to empty out the dross IMO. 5 days to go.

Still won't sit in judgement on Csaba until the first quarter is over but it is starting to look as though he can walk the walk as well as talk the talk.

Need to rattle Airdrie early doors tomorrow. A couple of early goals are what's wanted.

Jambo-ree,

Agree we need to sort out the No 1 position asap
Same as to getting rid of some players about 4 or 5 to leave and 1 or 2 to come in would be good
Time is against us though

I'm hoping the Hungarian is the business, though I have no idea admittedly.
Having seen Kello against Rangers and then on Saturday I'm not convinced and likewise McDonald in Under 21s and last seasons Scottish Cup. I feel either of these 2 would be a decent back up and wouldnt let us down like Kurskis but we do need a decent keeper.

#64 Mcdonald was in goal against Rangers
Kello made his debut on Saturday did not see enough of him on Saturday looked comfy on the ball and was always shouting at his defence thats about all i can say on him so far

I think that the impact of good leaders all over the pitch is clear in every good side. Every player in the Man Utd team could be their captain, for example.

Stewart is a natural at this and should be the captain. Berra looks to have come on a lot and is communicating more in my view but is still far to quiet on the pitch. Neilson is a better communicator.

In the past guys like Jardine, Levein, Mackay, Pressley were superb organisers and motivators on the park. I'd still like to see an inspirational figure like that helping this very young team. Whether someone with a personality and a bit of leadership would be tolerated by The Great Leader is another matter.

#65 Huggs I meant Kaunas v Rangers.
#66 NJ Csabas press conference the other week, prior to Rangers I think, he was looking for the strong spine. I think Berra and Stewart would be part of that, but a keeper and a striker are needed, maybe the Hungarian maybe not, but I dont think the other 2 are what he has in mind.
Sadly Man U can pay for 11 captains, clubs like ourselves struggle to get these leaders. Bad losers are what we really need.

#15 I dont think playing Nade in any position will get goals he is NOT a goal scorer and never will be. Csaba is happy with him but it must be because he has lost weight. If we could get a striker in that can get at least 15 to 20 goals a season we would be a good enough team to give the OF a hard time, but untill we can find this striker we will struggle no doubt about that.

I think the obvious position that needs addressing asap, is the goal keepers, we have young defenders who need guidence and preferable in English, a good goal keeper is a must to control and supervise his defence so lets hope that the Hungarian speaks English!! Does anyone know if he does?
The next obvious role that needs filled is a striker that can actually score so I hope Mike Tull is the man for the job.
In midfield we seem spoiled for choice.

Quite upbeat , Newcastle are we not ?

Don't tell me Saturdays game tickled the old taste buds just a wee bit ?

I take it that the game was your first for a good long while and some of the old Jambo Juices have been sparked into life ?

I'd be very surprised if Hearts lost this tonight, and even more disappointed if Airdrie won it. This could possibly be the only fixture around that see's me wanting a jam tarts victory!

Airdrie - You'll Never Kill the Bankies!

well give nade and the rest a chance if they cant do it against a lower division team ,then accept that they were bad buys and cut our losses ,pay them off .

Welcome back Newcastle Jambo- you are a breath of fresh air, spot on with your analyses and sensible and realistic in your recommendations for team improvement.
Let's hope that your optimism is realized. Wouldn't it be great if we finally had a well run team again. There's no saying what we might do.

With Tullberg let's hope we finally have a decent goalscorer ie; someone who can get 15/20 goals a season - which but Hearts standards is prolific!

I really like the look of this new manager - The only worry is that if things go too well then Vlad will press the " self- destruct button!

#28 THE WOOKIE

.and how long do you estimate that we should wait for Nade to demonstrate his fitness.mind you, it's only been a year or so......perhaps we should give hime time............Oh Yeah......time to learn the way to the front door. He's taking us for mugs...and we ARE if we take any more of this "when he's fit" b0llox!
