FORMER Hearts player Darren Jackson insists the club's players were right to be extremely concerned about not being paid last week.
The entire Tynecastle squad found themselves without their weekly salaries last Friday due to what the club described as "technical reasons".
Jackson, who spent two years at Tynecastle before the Vladimir Romanov revolution began, believes players
usually take no notice of off-field goings on. But it is a different matter when it starts to affect their own livelihoods.
"You talk about takeovers and all that – that doesn't really affect players," said Jackson. "You just play football – you don't worry who's in charge of the club. But when your wages are not coming in..."
Footballers are often the last professionals people would sympathise with over loss of earnings, but Jackson insists it is a myth that all top-flight players are raking in the cash.
"Everyone just thinks that they're all earning loads of money so it doesn't matter if the wages aren't coming in," he said. "But it's not like that in Scotland. It must be difficult for the players."
The squad were originally told they would be recompensed by Monday or Tuesday but another delay ensued.
Everyone has been told to expect the money in their bank accounts by today, but the incident has raised questions about the club's finances.
