HEARTS midfielder Laryea Kingston insists he's happy to stay at the club and see out the remaining year of his contract.
The Ghana international is now the highest-paid player at Tynecastle following the departure of Bruno Aguiar, earning nearly treble the £3,000 maximum weekly wage that's being put in place for any of Csaba Laszlo's new summer signings.

Privately,
Hearts are thought to be keen to sell the 28-year-old before the transfer window closes at the end of August to reduce their wage bill, but Kingston's recent injury problems – he's managed just 80 minutes of action since the end of January – have prevented him showcasing his talents in the shop window.

Therefore the player, who insists he's fully fit again after hamstring problems, says he's ready to give his all during what could be his final 12 months at Tynecastle. He said: "I have one season to play for Hearts and hope to feature week in and week out without any injuries. My family is settled and I'm also happy with the contract that I have.

"Before the winter break I had numerous offers from other clubs but could do little about them since I got injured prior to the transfer deadline. So now I want to concentrate on helping this team win trophies and hopefully at the end of the season we'll see what happens.

"The 2008/09 season was the worst in my career as a professional footballer as I was plagued with a number of injuries. It has been frustrating against the backdrop that I started the season very well compared with the previous one. It was a season I had pencilled in to get onto the scoring charts more often since I got nine goals in the previous campaign. I had it in mind to score at least ten, especially after getting three goals in eight games during the early stages of the season. But unfortunately I got injured and that saw me miss most of the second half of the campaign.

"The manager really missed me though it's really difficult to measure my absence. I guess the look on his face summed it up. He told me his wish of having me free from injury for a whole season. It was clear that he had been saddened with me being on the sidelines."

Csaba Laszlo is well aware of the need to strengthen his squad following the departures of Robbie Neilson, Christos Karipidis and Aguiar, but Kingston believes the quality of youngsters coming through the ranks at the Riccarton Academy means the future is bright for Hearts.

"I think next season is going to be difficult for us because we have lost two or three of our key players whom we are yet to replace. However, despite the financial constraints the club is facing, the coach has built a young good team with incredible potential. I believe we will be ready for the challenge. I hope to have an injury-free period next season but being able to guarantee my place in the team depends on me being fit at all times, though I always bring something different to the team."

It's likely Kingston, should he remain at Tynecastle, will be earmarked to play on the right-hand side of midfield – the position he plays for Ghana – with Ruben Palazuelos, Michael Stewart and new signing Ian Black all competing for roles in the centre of midfield.

An injury-free season with Hearts would not only put him back in the shop window when his contract expires in twelve months time but it would also set him up nicely for the World Cup in South Africa next year.

Ghana could secure qualification in September if they beat Sudan and Mali draw with Benin in African Group E, and Kingston's appearance at a major championship would soften the blow of missing the 2006 World Cup through suspension.

"It would be quite important to me from a personal perspective because prior to Germany 2006 I did everything to see the team qualify but it really hurt not being there to participate in such an amazing tournament."

Oh dear...

All joking aside, this doesn't bode well for shabba's "warchest". Guaranteed punting Kingston would be fundamental to his plans for the coming season.

oh, BTW, so now the Jambos have a wage cap whereas Hibs don't, just a total wages budget. I assume that's large portions of humble pie all round, eh, my Jambo chums?

I wait in expectation........

If no one comes in for him (and I don't think there will be any offers)we still have to pay him so lets hope he is fit and gives us more of what he is capable of-then he will be worth the huge wage he is on.

when did he last actually look like he gives a flying fork about Hearts?

a £700,000 a year cash haemorrhage. for that i would expect a bunch of 'man of the match' awards. but no. sorry... but he does NOT deliver. flatters to deceive. and very probably feigns injury on occasion.

The worst attitude in the team lazy and petulent.I had hopes of necer seeing Kingston in a marron shirt ever again.
Constantly injured but his injuries seem to clear up just in time for him to travel with the Ghanaian squad for matches only for his injury to flair up again.

Dont beleive Hearts have a 3k wage cap either and also beleive Nade is on even more than Kingston
12

Abe Fruman,

Huggs

You question the veracity of the Scotsman????

But seriously, why wouldn't there be a wage cap on new signings? As the board has acknowledged wage bill has to be slashed and players sold to make ends meet so surely it makes sense that a top figure would be placed on any newcomers.

No?

The only plus side here is that, as happened with Karipedis and Aguiar, we may get a good final season from Kingston as he'll be playing for his next contract. And when he's on form he's a very good player. Then once we've got shot of him, and Nade, maybe the club will go back to a more sensible signing policy - looks like that's the way we're going anyhow.

It's been proven that if we put more money into resigning players like Berra, Driver, Gordon and Wallace on longer contracts, not only do we get good hungry players for longer but we get a fee when they move on. Need to push the boat out for a proven SPL striker though, not that there are many of those around.

Next season looks like a good opportunity for Hearts, and possibly Dundee Utd and Aberdeen, and whoever else fancies making a challenge and getting the OF in their sights. The OF are weaker than even when we challenged under Burley. Hibs and Motherwell look weaker unless they sign the key players they need, Dundee Utd could be stronger and Aberdeen are a bit of an unknown quantity.

It is stunning to me that Hearts over the past few seasons have brought in so many "dead beats". Guys who've cost a lot, been paid a lot, and given...well! not a lot.
Beslieja, Pinnilla, Jankauskas,Kingston, Tall and Goncalves.
Sure we've had a bucket load of others, but Rudi, Bednar,Brellier and etc wanted to play, and worked har when they were selected.
I just don't get it with Larry, he got genuine ability, but a stinking attitude.
Like 90% of Hearts supporters I find myself irritated at the metion of his name.
He's got a lot to do, if he want's to win back my good will, but I don't think that's on the cards.

Scotland is a poor football nation, at least when it comes to finances. We don't have enough sponsorship, be it by tv or any other way. The rich guys, I mean really rich guys only interested in English premier league. Yet paying decent wages to those who were thought to be decent players got Hearts in a bigger debt. Some players went for nothing others Hearts possibly got back what we paid out in wages. A few were profitable.

Yet Scottish clubs see the money being thrown at clubs south of the border and must be angry. Edinburgh is capital of Scotland with a population of around half a million, yet I can name small towns in England who are bigger clubs than Hearts and Hibs. Some clubs in Championship get lesser crowds than Hearts but have more financial clout. This is due to better tv sponsorship.

3,000 per week maximum wage. Still way ahead of the Hobos. Miser Petrie doesn't want anyone earning more than him at Fester Road.

Mr Romanov hjas got plenty of money, not as much as he had, but plenty all the same. He's never been afraid to spend big and I don't see that stopping now, just because Setanta have gone pop.

Larry, I want to believe you, honest I really do but too many false dawns for you. Football is about more than ability hence why you never have or never will play at the very top. We cant really afford you yet you take the mickey by not tracking back or not playing at all. You may be the unluckiest guy in the world with injuries but somehow I just dont buy it.

Personally my patience has run out and am disappointed because he is very good when he wants to be. However, his attitidue sums up everything wrong with the club before Csaba came in and this "am better than the rest so dont have to try as hard" attitude can only hinder what is now a decent morale in the dressing room. Somebody needs to pin him up against a dressing room wall and demand he works hard or he's training with the u19's - too much slack been given already.

p.s. donut Abe, dont get too excited by an unsubstantiated wage cap. A couple of weeks back it was quoted as £4k and £5k. Also Larry was alledged to be earning £15k and now its £9k. Allied to this, a large chunk of hearts players earning will now be bonuses and its fair to say we will still be paying decent money but in the right manner and hopefully to the right characters instead of the imposter above.

Sometimes I look in here and wonder if the posters have a clue about football.

Rolland in his deferential state talks as if he is at the ballet.

Seems Rolland also believes that Romanov has spent HIS money on HOM.

Rolland.I will stay on line while you detail this because i have searched and searched and I cant find one example of Romanov spending HIS money on Hearts.

Yes Romanov might have plenty of money but it is other peoples money. Some of it is your money Rolland.

Hearts debt = Romanov income.

Hearts debt has risen under Romanov while somewhere in the region of £15 million has been raked in through transfer deals.

There was the cup win and the European revenue.
What about the season ticket revenue?
Annual revenue far outstripping stated expenditure.

Now correct me if i stray from the facts but given the above you might expect debt to fall.In fact you would be astounted if debt didnt fall.

Even Hearts own accountants are astounded. They think its robbery.

A few posts with suspect figures.

Kingston is on £15k per week.
A combined annual wage with Nade of roughly £1.3m

To the thickos that reckon a £3k average per week is a real come down....Hearts have changed their payment policy (rightly so) A lower basic is to be combined with a results paid bonus - Wages will be as near as damn doubled when winning with an extra grand or so for a draw (though more when playing the old firm)
For too long we have had players(mainly foreign ones)that were on huge contracts and were happy to take the money for doing very little - Now they will have to earn the quality wages- no shirkers now as non triers go home every week thousands of pounds poorer.
It is what all sensible fans have been after for years - a team of triers - not many things make sportsmen work harder than the lure of dosh.
Well done Vlad (makes a change me saying that) watch other clubs do the same over the next few years (a small minority are also putting this in place right now)
40

Jambo-ree,

#25 Annoying thing is that he can turn it on when he wants to. For example I thought he played really well in the African Cup of Nations.

If Csaba can't motivate him then perhaps self interest will. If he's going to be off on freedom of contract in 12 months then he's going to want impress scouts to maximise possible future deals and he won't do that if he continues to funny around with us.

If he wants to stay and screws the nut then he's welcome otherwise we'd be better off offloading in the winter window and getting at least something for him. But I'm sure Csaba knows this.

#36 "Rudi worked hard" - yes he was quite a player but I recall him as a first half wonder. Don't recall many second half goals from him (OK we'll give him the one in Cup final but beyond that?)
41

Jambo-ree,

#38 He certainly didn't. We were to be denied Euro fottball due the abondonment of the SPL due to swine 'flu bladdy bladdy blah.

I think that we can expect all public gatherings to stop.

That means cancellation of football games concerts closure of schools etc.
This will happen fairly quickly as the pig flue spreads.

Will Hearts still pay their players without cash flow to do so?
