Record buy Beslija leaves Hearts after costing £122,000 a start

HEARTS last night released record signing Mirsad Beslija after reaching a severance agreement with the injury-plagued midfielder for the remaining seven months of his contract.
Besljia became Hearts most expensive ever player when he signed from Belgian outfit Racing Genk for £850,000 in January 2006 during Graham Rix's short reign as manager.

However, a lack of form coupled with a horrendous run of bad luck with injury
has meant the 29-year-old has been unable to justify the transfer fee Hearts paid for him.

At a time when club owner Vladimir Romanov is trying to trim the wage bill, it's thought Beslija was one of the highest-paid players at Tynecastle, reportedly earning around £9,000 a-week.

Hearts farmed the player out on a season-long loan to Sint-Truiden last term but he was also hampered by injuries in Belgium.

With Beslija making only seven first team starts in nearly three years on the books at Hearts, every appearance he made in the first eleven effectively cost the club £122,000.

He also made six substitute appearances for the club.

A Hearts spokesperson said: "We wish Mirsad all the best for the future."

Meanwhile, Hibs will not be signing Moroccan goalkeeper Khalid Sinouh.

Amsterdam-born Sinouh spent two weeks on trial at Easter Road, playing 90 minutes of a closed-doors game last week. But Paatelainen, who has seen a number of trialists over the past few months in a bid to strengthen his goalkeeping pool, said: "We decided not to offer Khalid a contract.

"We thanked him for coming over and spending nearly two weeks with us but we just felt that he wasn't the one that we wanted. I am sure he will find a club and is more than capable of playing at a good level."

Paatelainen will continue his search but insists he has every faith in current goalkeepers Yves Ma-Kalambay and Andy McNeil.

"The goalkeepers already at our club are very good, and I will not make hasty decisions," he said. "If the right goalkeeper comes along then that is great, but if not I know that we have two boys here who are more than capable and have done well for us.

"There is no point in bringing someone in just to add to the squad for the sake of it."

Meanwhile Chris Hogg is rated doubtful for the derby after suffering a reoccurrence of the blurred vision he has suffered with in recent weeks.

Aye, but he's really fast - and did you see that one cross he did.

Great player. Out wide, with Pinilla up front and the two world cup stars...Champions League in 5 years....play football like no-one else.

Still, pub team versus flairmeisters soon.

thankfull that this is now over, this guy was a total waste of money can't believe his luck with injuries. Hope vlad has learned a lesson here and will stop paying out hefty wages to risky foreign signings, next to trim the wage bill- nade, makela

Agree, and what amazes me is that the management is so blind to the fact that Craig Levine, Jim Jeffries and others can pick up better players than us with a far smaller budget.

Although they may have had their moments, on the long term we have to class this lot as failuresas far as HOM are concerned: Beslija, Pospisil, Bednar, Pinilla and an arm's length of Lithuanians, and no doubt I have missed some more. Though I do think Pospisil a trier. Bednar is showing us a different player now and George Burley always said he is a good player.

I assume that your finger and brain were not in sync when you added Bednar to your list of failures? Bednar did a turn for us, then got injured and did not come back the same. Think he may even have a Scottish Cup winners medal you know!! Anyway got punted for a very good fee, due to someone in the know realising that he had a bit of quality, and now with any luck the Jambos will get a slice of his sell on fee when he moves from the Baggies to a bigger and better club.

26

Who?,

15/10/2008 09:26:32
Beslija would have played far more games if it wasn't for the people who run hearts. How any coach (valdas etc) worth his salt could prefer Miko or chesney to Beslija is well beyond me. They guy had a terrible run with injuries which isn't his fault.

On the positive side the wage bill will be better off.

Just one, in a catalogue of Errors of Judgement, by Romanov.
How many Hearts fans came away from the debut this choob had and thought he was "class"?
Answer...Very few.
From the very beginning, his play was a mirror image of his hairstyle.
Diddy player, diddy haircut!!
Sspeaking of Diddies and Diddy haircuts, what about Eggy v Deeks on Sunday.
Only one winner there...Egbard the Deekslayer.

Makela next.

Jambo-ree,

All this talk of being unlucky with injuries. There are two types of player - those who'd turn out regardless (think John Cumming) and those who are happy to swing the lead at the least excuse. I think Mr Beslija falls into the latter category, and then some - a true psychosomatic if ever there was one. Still, you can never miss what you've never had but not happy with the loss of money.
34

Jambo-ree,

15/10/2008 10:04:29

#29- he got injured on his debut in the cup game against aberdeen which kept him for for a few months- late challenge on the knee if i remember rightly.

#32- I don't know, my 89 year old grandmother is better than miko and chesney.
36

#33 Apparently so, obviously been brought on to advise Hearts on their 'strategic direction'. Nothing out of the ordinary, another 'total non-story' (tm).

I notice that the architects brought into draw up the new main stand no longer list HMFC as a client on their website. Of course this is nothing out of the ordinary, another 'total non-story' (tm).

hope vlad has now decided to stop gambling on bringing in foriegn players on big wages and trying to showcase them then sell for big profit. For every success ie. bednar, velicka there is a besliga, pinnila makela etc.
Whether vlad thinks he/we can afford it is irrelevant to me, none of thewse guys deserve the wage. get the rest of the wasters out. nade and makela both supposedly high earners and do nowt. concentrate on bringing in/through young hungry players like driver.
40

OscarAcosta,

15/10/2008 10:36:49
players to bin in january or even sooner if possible- nade, makela, ksanuvicius, cesnauskas,
laszlo must have some decent contacts from previous jobs in germany, hungary africa etc. get in a decent left back, a no nonsense experienced centre half to partner berra and a proven goal scorer.

#39 - But that doesn't fit the hobo agenda.

Let them get all excited and creaming themselves about the impending demise of Hearts it will make the victory all the sweeter at the sticklebrick arena on Sunday. I mean if they can't beat a team going out of business (as they been telling us for over a year now) then how gash does that make them?

Looking forward to a good laugh at Maka and Bambi, not forgetting the freakshow that is Ratboy.

Would the new Hearts stadium plan lead to overcrowding problems?
Yes, emergency vehicles would struggle to get in.
Yes, but these could be fixed by banning cars on match days.
