HIBS manager Mixu Paatelainen is running the rule over German goalkeeper Christian Pearson.
The shot-stopper played as a trialist for the reserves in their clash with Kilmarnock on Tuesday night but was unable to prevent Ian Flannigan finding the net as the Rugby Park side earned a 1-0 victory.

Despite having Andy McNeil, Yves Makalamb
ay – who is currently at the Olympics with Belgium, who advanced to the quarter-finals in Beijing yesterday – and David Grof as options between the sticks, Paatelainen is still looking to strengthen the goalkeeping position.

New Zealander Phil Imray played in goals as a trialist during the goalless pre-season clash with Raith but didn't do enough to merit a deal.

Paatelainen said: "Christian played against Kilmarnock the other night. He is from Germany and has experience of playing in the Bundesliga. He has showed up quite well so far and we will see what happens.

"He was actually with us on trial before and he has come back so we can have another look at him."

Meanwhile, right-back David Van Zanten has been passed fit for Saturday's clash with Falkirk despite requiring stitches to a head knock.

The Irishman sustained the injury in the 1-0 SPL loss to Kilmarnock on Saturday and was off the park receiving treatment when Jamie Hamill notched the only goal of the game.

However, Paatelainen expects the defender to be available for the visit of the Bairns.

He said: "David is fine, he had a few stitches in his head but he has trained with the boys this week."

However, former Hearts midfielder Neil McCann faces a race against time to be fit for the visitors as both sides go chasing their first points of the season.

A hamstring-strain sustained in training on Friday denied the Scotland cap the chance of making his debut in Saturday's narrow 1-0 loss to Rangers at the Falkirk Stadium.

John Hughes' side travel to Edinburgh this weekend looking to get their campaign up and running.

However, the Bairns might have to do it without the experienced former Rangers, Southampton and Scotland winger.

Falkirk assistant manager Brian Rice said: "It's touch and go with Neil at the minute regarding the game at the weekend.

"He just felt a wee niggle, that's why he didn't play against Rangers."

According to Wikipedia he played for Dynamo Dresden and Carl Zeiss Jena but both were in Bundesliga 2 (their second division) and hopping between there and the regional leagues. That doesn't mean he's not a good keeper, it just means that Mixu's being thrifty with the full truth!

Tut tut chubby Mixu!

Who's it gonna be? ,

He better be decent. He'll be working hard at hibs this season.
Shame we can't take the other 4 muppets, put them in a blender then mash them together with their best attributes. There again, it would still be rank rubbish. Wonder what colour it would be.

cannae read? Hertha BSC is a bundesliga team. he might have played in the reserves, but he was still part of a bundesliga outfit. Selective reading, you lot must've got pretty good at that recently...

#11 Here's what the article actually said
"has experience of playing in the Bundesliga"

It doesn't say he has "experience of being at a Bundesliga club" like you seem to think. Really it's pretty clear!

He was at Hertha Berlin for 4 years and never once played in the Bundesliga.
He played in the second division for other clubs, but not in the Bundesliga.

Ergo, He does not have experience of playing in the Bundesliga as Mixu states. Who has selective reading difficulties?

Its not another goalie we need ..........its a striker.....or two.
You cannot WIN a game unless you score more goals than the opposition. Obvious but true but apparently not obvious to Petrie et al. Sure a good defence and a capable goalie is necessary but if you don't score more goals - you aint gonna win.
Surely a team that can score goals and win would be a benefit for Petries & Farmers investments?????
lets see some dosh going out the door for two goal scoreres huh? Or Deek? Surely his expectations of salary are now a bit more realistic?

Agree immediately that a striker is needed but.........

a) A good defence and keeper will get Hibs points
b) The midfield is still not right - wrong balance, inadequate skill to open defences. I am not impressed by this guy Keenan - he either needs 20 seconds to think or he is making stupis back heels and flicks.

By size, this big German is appealing but we don't know if he is any good as a keeper.

Maka is 6ft 6'' but is not convincing either coming for balls. A question of judgement I think. He also seems to lose ball in flight and fumbles as a result.

Malkowski is about 6ft 3'' but is also not commanding in the box.

McNeil is agile but too small for the modern game. Keepers like Alan Main got by 15 years ago but forwards are all too big now and defenders likewise.
