MIDFIELDER Brian Kerr secured his release from Hibs to become a free agent before last night's transfer window slammed shut.
Kerr and his representative thrashed out a compensation package for the remaining year on his contract after the playmaker was told by manager Mixu Paatelainen he was not part of his plans.
Kerr is now waiting for his phone to ring with offers aft
er ending his disappointing year-long stint with the Easter Road club.
He said: "I have come to an agreement with the club to get released and that's good for both parties. Hopefully now I can get a new club.
"I am not restricted by the transfer window which is good so I don't have to rush into anything.
"There is nothing at the minute but it's not long since I actually parted company with Hibs."
Kerr was signed from Motherwell by then manager John Collins last summer and made 23 league starts.
Kerr, however, has not pulled on a Hibs jersey since the 2-0 Intertoto Cup first leg defeat to Swedes IF Elfsborg at the start of July when he was subjected to ironic cheers from the home support when he was substituted in the 55th minute of the match.
Even though his career in Leith has come to a premature end, Kerr insists he enjoyed his time with Hibs. He said: "I have definitely got no regrets about joining Hibs. I had some good times there and it's just unfortunate the way it has worked out."
Meanwhile, Hamilton manager Billy Reid finally got his man when freed Hibs defender Martin Canning agreed a one-year deal with the SPL newcomers.
The 26-year-old left Easter Road by mutual consent after agreeing to have the final year of his contract terminated.
Reid revealed the former Ross County stopper had shaken hands on a move to the then First Division Hamilton in January when he negotiated his way out of doomed Gretna, only for Hibs to step in with a late bid.
However, with Canning disappointed at playing second fiddle to Rob Jones and Chris Hogg under Mixu Paatelainen, Reid got another chance to sign the player yesterday and made it second time lucky.
He said: "When I heard he had become available again I was delighted to get him. Despite being at both Gretna and Hibs he's still to get a real run in the Premier League because he's not played as many games as he would have liked. I'm sure he will be hungry to put that right with us."
