FALKIRK goalkeeper Dani Mallo has revealed he is on the verge of signing for Hibernian.
The 30-year-old admitted he has been in touch with new Easter Road manager John Hughes about a move. Hughes managed Mallo at Falkirk last season before he quit the club for his dream move to the Edinburgh side. And the Spanish keeper looks set to f
ollow his old boss to Leith on a free transfer as his current contract expires as the end of the month. Mallo said: "Hibs are a great club with history and passion and the coach already knows me."

Meanwhile, Steven Fletcher will ignore continuing speculation that he is set to move to Celtic, according to his agent, Scott Fisher.

The 22-year-old striker was subject of a failed by the Parkhead club in January and with former Easter Road manager Tony Mowbray having taken over at Celtic, fresh reports have emerged linking Fletcher with his former mentor, despite having four years left on his contract at Hibs. However, Fisher said: "John Hughes is looking to speak to all of his players over the next couple of weeks and Steven will be one of them sitting down to talk to him.

"No matter what happens, Steven will remain fully focused on the job in hand."

"Hibs are a great club with history and passion and the coach already knows me."

How does that comment relate to the headline??

If he'd said "I'm close to joining" or "I've had talks with Hibs" then yes I'd agree he was close to joining.

He may well end up at ER but come on journo - no more false headlines.

This one always looked likely and if yogi can put a decent keeper in place as his first act as manager then that'll go down well with the faithful. Something we've not had ( the few weeks of the mad monk excluded ) for a LONG time.

As long as Marshall isn't going to be allowed to f**k him up, that is. What does he do to them?

Farm that joker out cut some hair in the West End, pronto.

It's just a wee bit too easy to blame the goalkeeping coach.

We're talking about somebody's livelihood here so we should be very sure where the blame lies.

We are also in danger if twisting the facts to fit the case. Under Marshall, McNeil became a very highly regarded Scotland goalkeeper and if he didn't progress smoothly all the way then what do you think happens to many outfield players who are young stars but fall by the wayside a little bit.

Now when you look at Simon Brown and Zibby maybe they were not the highest quality keepers anyway and maybe Marshall improved them. The both showed the same tendency to leave the near post unguarded but I'm not sure that was down to Marshall.

Outfield players have their faults as well. Fletcher has missed goals because he won't use his right foot. A coaching issue? Perhaps, But I've not heard that used as a reason to sack the coaches.

So, no. I won't be joining in the calls to get rid of Marshall until I know that he's a bad coach. Until I know that he takes brilliant keepers and turns them into duffers, which is what's suggested.

Makalamby has shown that he has his own faults that are not the same as previous goalkeepers. Is this Marshall moving his own career on with new faults to instill in the keepers in his charge?

We are not in a position to know whether Marshall is a good coach or not.

#8 Sorry, but if you get coached 5 days a week and muck up in the game you play, you would expect your coach to then spend the next week teaching you how to overcome any errors made.

How long has Marshall been at Hibs? How many keepers have improved under him? I'm guessing the fans who watch them week after week would say none. In any other profession Marshall would have been sacked long ago, but in football it's jobs for the boys.

My guess is that Hibs have not had the cash required to sack Marshall or can't get in anyone better on the wages Petrie will offer. No other logical explanation.

This is the story?,

Good news for Hibs as we've seen what a half-decent goalie can do for the performance of whole team.

As for Marshall, I agree that whilst we will never see him in action, and so it's difficult to assess his performance in his role, I personally have never heard any manager or player give him any credit for improving a player. He's been at Hibs long enough for us to judge the value he's adding and it seems to be nil!

#11 - "to judge the value he's adding and it seems to be nil!"

You know in goalkeeping terms that is a clean sheet :o) which is good value to be adding! I'll pitch in and say he is throwing the ball into his own net, which was what Maka starting doing on the last game of the season.

I think you've actually got a good point, its very hard as fans to know if he's any good or not without seeing him day in, day out at the training ground, something successive managers have done without sacking him. Fans tend to get on the back of those they perceive as underperforming very quickly (I remember some fairly sensible posters on here screaming for the board to be sacked a few months ago, now Mixu's gone, no one seems that bothered anymore).

I think Mowbray should be getting much more of the blame in particular for his total and abject failure to spot a good keeper which would have made all the difference in that Hibs side.
